GDT: Rob Ray Sabres HOF Induction. Nashville Predators vs. Buffalo Sabres MSG, NHLN 7:00pm

There are several members of the Sabres Hall of Fame who never skated for the team. Examples: Rip Simonick, Frank Christie. Several Broadcasters. Bob Rich Jr., others.
Dated list linked. And after a gap of several years (was a topic on these boards in the past) Three since then - Hasek, Miller, and now Ray.

Heck, I'm not so sure I'd have an issue if they put that now-deceased elderly woman in who was a STH beginning with the Bisons and continuing through the Sabres at the Aud and then at KBC, something like 60 years.

This isn't a jersey retirement ...

The standard has nothing to do with points or All Star Games...

This is just bitching to bitch.

Woof.

He's a beloved broadcaster and community asset who has been with the organization for 30 years. He's 4th all-time in games played here with 889.

What an absolute dog of a take.

I wasn't aware the Sabres HOF had non players, which makes this a little more palatable.

I've just never gotten the Rob Ray hype. He was a sideshow in his career and was a pretty poor color guy as a broadcaster. He's better than he was when he first started, but he's rarely insightful or adds much.

Can I just say, inducting a player to your teams 'hall of fame' who was more of a sideshow than an actual contributor to the team isn't a great look for a franchise that fighting for credibility. Ray did great stuff off the ice and was a good fighter.

But bringing him into your hall of fame just shows incredibly low standards.

Being punched in the face for one's teammates used to be more than the sideshow it became in the 2000's.

Edit - Beerz put it best.

He adds humor and great stories...and has a legacy with his verbiage

Sometimes what a person means to a franchise is more than pure stats.

He's cemented this with his broadcasting more than his playing. Is he perfect and professional and articulate? No, but he's a lot more interesting to listen to than most other teams' commentators.

Congratulations Reyzorr
