Kings News: Rob Blake's No. 4 jersey will be retired by the LA Kings

It really would be shameful and disgraceful to hear boos at an event celebrating the career of a Kings' player who is so respected by his peers. I wouldn't want to associate myself with supposed "adults" who act like spoiled children.

You should bring John Bender to the game with you

While I too would not boo, especially with the rest of his family in attendance, I don't really give 2 cents about what his peers may or may not think of him. As a fan he left a bitter taste in many fans mouths, and imo is out of place amongst the others on the rafters. I would choose to do what another poster suggested, grab an extra beer and don't go to your seat until its over.

Seems this thread has turned into a booing bash when many who disagree with this ceremony are not saying they would boo, just terrible they are shoving him down our throats.

Pretty much this. Seems the pro-Blake crowd want to make us out like "spoiled children" so they can advance their mischaracterized argument. Unless I am missing something, I don't recall a poster here who said if he/she plans to attend the ceremony that they would proactively boo him.

I've seen this said a few times in Blake threads and I'm curious what constitutes shoving him down our throats. How exactly is the organization doing this? Email blasts signed by Rob Blake? Stationing him outside Staples to greet fans? Calling season ticket holders with a recorded Rob Blake message asking for money?

Obviously I'm being facetious for the most part. Other than DL hiring Blake and requiring him to take over Hextall's duties and now the organizational decision to retire his jersey, which just about any organization in the same position would do, how else is he being forced upon us fans?

You guys want to talk about character flaw...you being unable to forgive Blake's action from 15 years ago, THERE'S a character flaw.

Some of the posters, I'm not at all surprised. But there are some posters on here that I've liked and respected for an awful long time. It's really disappointing that those posters want to continue hating.

Just ask yourselves this: is being stubborn, unforgiving, and hating considered good character?

I wish those fans would also say that they'll no longer support the team and disappear.

I've been a Kings fan all my life. Nobody who chooses to take the "C" off their Kings sweater - while gleefully wearing the "C" for the hated Sharks, by the way - deserves to have their number retired, period. If that makes me a "bad fan," then so be it. :shakehead

Are you a marriage counselor?

This thread is HFBoards version of the Middle East.

I think this is how some posters envision Rob Blake:

2 sides to every coin, some view him as God...

I actually for once agree with rh63, this thread has run it's course. Blake's career is over and there is nothing that Ziggy can say that will change my mind or K17's mind and there is nothing that we can say to change your guys minds.

I've seen the organization under different leadership show less loyalty to its players than anything. I think perhaps that's why some of us have learned to let things go, after all, this is a business, these guys' careers don't last very long, and you can't blame a guy for maximizing his value, even if it means losing a few fans.

He achieved the ultimate prize for a player of his position and won a Cup with the only team that gave him a real shot at winning it (though he came close with the Kings in '93 but after that the Kings were pretenders until 2012).

I just can't wrap my head around calling the guy a villain, because that is what a few select fans are essentially doing when they boo somebody.

I remember back when every other rookie defenseman the Kings would add to the pipeline would be touted as the next Rob Blake or had Rob Blake like qualities according to Taylor or Al Murray.

Mathieu Biron, Joe Rullier, Mike Pudlick, Aaron Rome, Rich Petiot, Paul Baier. Those were fun times, trying to come up with a replacement for a 25+ minute playing dman who played in every situation. Maybe that's what they thought they were getting out of Maxim Kuznetsov when they traded Schneider to Detroit?

KingsHockey24 just popped a chubby.

I believe the Kings had Paul Dyck and Mike Pudlick in the same training camp. Essa Pirnes came a couple of years later.
