RNH played in the World Cup exactly how he plays for the Oilers. If you watched them, you would see that.

Just because you say he's worth something, that doesn't make it so. Either way, he isn't getting traded right now.

I do agree he is worth something just not what most of the HF fans think. And yes I have watched him play for the Oil and no itds not close. He appeared to be having fun he actually smiled a number of time. And to be honest I think that is the reason the guy has not broken out in Edmonton. Im not sure he was ever 1C material as people here tried to convince us because he never lived up to that standard. In the WC he seemed to play loose. Alot of the time with the Oil he looks as if the weight of the entire team is on him and yes even after McDavid was added to the roster. Its like someone who sees something is poopooed and told they have never watched the team. Well heres a lil news theres a bunch of people that watched the Oil last year because of McDavid. I keep up with the Oil because they were my fav team before Nashville got a franchise. I watched the Great Ones years there enjoyed that success. Im not as up on the team as I was then but I know talent when I see it. RNH has talent that has not been used there period. Why is still my question. Hes had different coachs different lines have been tried. He had the potential to be a nice 1C and has not been. Another question can they **** up McDavid just as they have RNH?

No to trading RNH. I expect him to have a 55 point year as well as sound defensive play.

I was very impressed with RNH at the the WC. He was solid and plays a good 200 foot game. That's a reasonable goal especially with McDavid drawing the top matchups.

Hell of a change from a few months ago when most oil fans were down with something around spurgeon or dumba+. I'm assuming the hall trade is the biggest reason, not the world cup

Nope better go read again . Oiler fans laughed at Dumba for RNH . Spurgeon well the Wild fans did not want to give him up

Lol! What culture? Athlete's Foot?

Definitely NOT a winning culture.

We've been getting bigger and heavier on the wings. Chia has been surrounding McDavid with more lunch pale, heavy wingers (Maroon, Kassian, Lucic).

Yakupov wanted out and anyone who doesn't want to be here 100% doesn't fit in. Not that controversial to say Yakupov didn't fit in with our culture.

It was not Oiler fans saying that... those were rumours from the media about RNH for Dumba. I think HF Oil freaked out collectively over the prospect of that deal

Quite possible I remembered it wrong because I only bothered talking to those own to it. I remember the spurgeon idea wasn't popular among wild fans

Uhhh, Barrie AND Soderberg? I don't know that I'd do Barrie alone.

I look at it as Soderberg leaving provides some valuable cap space. I also don't expect RNH to be the only piece coming back.

With MacKinnon RNH Duchene Landy and presumably Rantanen in the top 6 it makes it worth it. Barrie is a great player but trading him also depends greatly on Bigras and Zadorov panning out. Like I said, if Z and Bigras both have great years, I'd do this at the draft.

"What do you want for a 23 y/o 1/2C?"

"Well it has to fill a need, so how about player X or Y?"

"what!? here take *insert something EDM has no need for* your player isnt that good, youre welcome"

Every thread without fail.

...Last year he could have been part of a deal that would have landed Seth Jones but the oil were not willing to add. And no RNH is not as valuable as Johanson if Johanson can keep his head on straight.

Right now RNH is not gonna be traded but the fans sure love to dream of trades in Edmonton.

Source? Because every source ive seen has said it was purely due to Johansens stature and breaking out offensively.

“Multiple sources have confirmed to Sportsnet that Edmonton general manager Peter Chiarelli offered centre Ryan Nugent-Hopkins to Nashville in a bid to land defenceman Seth Jones,” wrote Spector.

Spector added: “A source explained that Johansen’s size advantage — he’s 6-foot-3 and 218 lbs., compared to 6-foot, 189 lbs. for Nugent-Hopkins — tipped the scales, as it were.”

He's not for sale and he damn sure isn't getting traded for prospects and picks.

I can't wait for nuge to play this year. It's going to be a breakout year and ppl will laugh at this thread come season's end.

i do recall the idea of Dumba + Coyle being wished for by EDM fans.

I'd keep RNH now if i were them until it's obvious the defense is an absolute liability. all they need is an average D IMO.

As you posted Edmonton local media confirmed that the Oil offered RNH. E.J Raddick on Sirius radio a day or two later was asked about the trade and he confirmed Edmonton's offer. He went on to say that Poile had asked for an additional piece and that the Oil backed off. Both Johanson and RNH have there own warts and I guess Poile saw Johanson a better value to pull the trigger. But I have little doubt the Oil could have made a deal. Looking back now what would it have hurt to offer RNH and Yak????? Hell you got nothing really for Yak as it is. But no They would not offer two 1st round picks for the defenseman they need.
Heck they could have offered RNH and Hall for Jones and Nashville would have added IMO. Just poor poor asset management by the GM. So now they have moved Yak and Hall and the D is still junk. Sure you scored 7 last night but you gave up 4 and that team will continue to give up 3 or more nightly. Why yet again the GM will not pay what is needed to fix the back end.

Think it was probably between trading Hall and trading RNH this offseason and they chose Hall. RNH isn't going anywhere

Trouba type of defenseman is what Oilers would want
No he's not. Vatanen, Barrie, Shattenkirk(extended) is the type of defenseman the Oilers would want.

Chiarelli also said he wanted a season to evaluate what he had.
I recall reports of Chiarelli backing off of Jones because McDavid was hurt, and Draisaitl was just called up so they really had no C depth

Adam Larsson > Seth Jones until Jones proves he can play top minutes against top competition and succeed.

How do you know we don't have a winning culture? We certainly didn't, but Chiarelli has flipped I think 65% of our roster since last year at this time, including getting rid of a known malcontent and our former locker room leader. This is a new team with mostly new faces.

In all fairness, 2 of those were on our special teams when we had only one defenseman on the ice.

Our "back end" is far better than it has been in years. Larsson has been solid for us all pre-season, and last night was probably our 3rd most impactful player after McDavid and Kassian. The main issue with our blueline is our youth. We have 2 guys who SHOULD be a solid top pair (Klefbom, Larsson), 2 guys who SHOULD be a solid bottom pair (Nurse, Davidson), and in the middle a couple of proven middle pair guys. It is all about whether the 4 young defensemen play up to their potential. And as long as they don't crash and burn, we will be fine. This isn't the same garbage blueline it was for most of last season where our only legit NHL defenseman was Sekera. Klefbom is healthy, Larsson is in, Russell is a legit #4 guy. Our blueline isn't great, but it isn't the dogs breakfast you seem to think it is.
