No this is not meant as an excuse. Congrats to Florida. Injuries are part of playoffs.

It does suck that hyman and RNH both had broken hands/wrists and Ek missed 3 rounds. I'd say they are all in our top 10 of players after the dynamic duo. A lot of posters say we have no depth but RNH and Hyman are top 6 NHL players.

I mean every team has injuries at this point. It’s impossible to have a healthy roster and I’d say Edmonton has been incredible lucky with all McDavid/Drai/Bouchard being able to play all the games during these runs.

Barkov had a massive hand injury, Reinhart grade 2 MCL sprain, Tkachuk a torn adductor

It’s part of the game

But as to overall point this is why NHL playoffs are the best, the things these guys do are insane

I think being injured and havng to play against Florida is significantly harder than being injured and having to play against Edmonton.

It’s probably a decent joke but in real world imagine Maurice saying to Barkov with a messed up hand and Reinhart with a messed up knee to shutdown McDavid- Drai duo. Can’t get any more difficult than that

My point is Florida is a vastly more physical team, so if you're banged up, they're gonna make you feel it far more than playing against the pretty boys of Jeff Skinner, Connor and Henrique.

Did RNH reach the point where it would've been better to just sit him and play someone else? He seemed to completely disappear from the series.

I get it, guys want to play and there's loyalty to the group and by the group that got you there, but sometimes I wonder... No disrespect to what it takes to play through injuries and pain but at some point, wouldn't it be even greater act to go "you know what, I don't think I can play well enough in my current state, maybe someone else should step in"?

I want to make it double clear this is in no way a dig against RNH at any level, just wondering about the culture around playing through injuries in the playoffs in general. Like it certainly seemed to me Tkachuk couple years ago in the finals made Florida actively worse by being on the ice. Guy's a hero for playing with an injury that made it impossible for him to tie his own laces IIRC, but honestly I believe Florida would've been a better team with him out of the lineup. Maybe my memory is playing tricks on me, but didn't Florida win the first game of that series vs Vegas without Tkachuk and then he came back and they lost 4 in a row?

He still did alright all things considered, and they weren't exactly sitting any high end talent with Hyman already being out

had a big game 4, this series probably ended up 5 without Nuge

Broken hand is not that much. (compared to Tkachuk etc.).

I guess the biggest difference is one played through it, other one just sucked.

as you say, injuries are a part of it, but very unfortunate timing, losing both Hyman and RNH
as he was the best player in Dallas series for edm, 9p in first 4 games, i think.

'i dont know if edm would have won with healty nuge and hyman, but
i think they proved up until the finals they where i slightly better team then last year

i would say top 6

I understand guys want to play a final, both there should be some rule, if somethings broken,
you dont play, somethings torn you dont play, its not a war, after all its just a game.
well just my opinion

massive hand injury, you have to be kidding...

It's always a shame that you won't see 2 healthy teams battle it out in the playoffs for the cup...but that's playoffs. There's a big reason you can't play that style for 82 regular season games and then hit the playoffs in full stride without missing a beat of that style. For some players it's just night and day with the amount of space given during the regular season. It takes a big toll on your body.

That explains it; I kept wondering why RNH vanished after the WCF. No Hyman, a busted RNH = their top-6 depth was shot and none of the forward lines worked on any level after that. It was 97, 29, and depth players who were outmatched (badly in some cases) by Florida's.
