Speculation: Ritchie on the move again?

Doesn’t make sense for them to use their final retention slot on him.

So unless they plan to flip him for a worse player making similar or more money, I don’t see them being able to flip him this season

For getting their choice of a 2nd or 3rd and a player they may flip for another pick in exchange for 2 expiring contracts?
How are they trading Ritchie for anything when he just passed thru waivers. He’s got negative value.

which pick is Arizona going to attach to Ritchie to trade his bad contract? Maybe include the 2023 3rd you got from Toronto to dump Ritchie on a team with cap space.

maybe now you get the absurdity of what you said.

See Ritchie as a reclamation project. Don't see him being traded any time soon. Not until we see how he reacts to being a Coyote.
The 'Yotes want to become bigger and badder. If nothing more than an adequate replacement for dumping Fischer after the season. Maybe trading Crouse will happen soon. More likely because the Coyotes will have an influx of rookies in their lineup for next season and want plugs who are willing to drop the gloves.

Arizona is better off keeping him, playing him and hoping they can flip him at the '23 deadline when his contract is expiring.

My guess is that the Habs are affraid Ritchie gives not the Yotes an edge in the race for the 1st OV pick and are looking to get him.

the Coyotes still have a retention spot…and why are we acting like this would be the first time a player is acquired after going through waivers? This happens almost every year. That said, Andy Strickland must be way less informed that members on HFBoards.

This. His value could appreciate in AZ

have him in the lineup running around hitting everything and getting in a few fights and some old school GM will trade assets for him.

If he did that he is still on the Leafs. That's all he had to do was at least be able to play an NHL game and throw hits and fight sometimes. He's too slow, all his hits are late after plays and he takes 1 boneheaded penalty a game.

Would a Ritchie for Lucic in the offseason make sense? Especially after Lucic’s bonus is paid out.

Arizona would get in Lucic a 5.25m cap hit for 1m salary. They would also drop a 2.5m cap on 3.3m salary.

Calgary gets more cap space for re-signing their UFA’s

Honestly a great idea. Too bad he has a NTC though.

Arizona is like that sleezy loan shark...except they forget you owe them money.

I'd swap Simek for Ritchie. Sharks need to make room and he's probably the easiest expendable player to move.

Arizona should play Ritchie in the top six and in front of the net on PP1 so that next year they can retain 50% on his deal and trade him for another pick. If he plays in the top six i'm sure he can get back to being a 15 goal, 30+ point guy - not something you are enthused with in those minutes but enough to swindle a GM into overpaying at the deadline for him as a rental.

Got to rehab the value.

Probably the Kraken because they'll have lots of cap space. But I think Beniers might report to Seattle after the NCAA season is completely over. But I don't see a reason for the Coyotes not to keep him.

There were rumours that the Flames were interested in him.

If Arizona picks up some of the tab for this year and gets, say a couple of Second Rounders for the retaining of salary, some teams will roll the dice considering the year he had last year and the fact he is only on a one and a half year contract.

Maybe there's a team out there that wants to shed a player making above 3 mil in cap but less than Ritchie's 3.3 in real money next year? The money would still have to be more advantageous for Arizona than a Ritchie buyout unless the team added a pick onto said player.

Conclusion: The deadline is still a month away and Arizona leaked that if your team gets very injured or wants to take a risk, he's still on the block.

They will try to give him good minutes and PP time. If he succeeds (which he won't) then maybe they can give him away for free at the TDL.

Otherwise they will buy him out in the offseason or trade him for a player that has a lower salary than cap hit.

If they retain, they can probably get a pick. Dubas did say that there were other team interested, but wanted retention.

You’d waste a two year retention spot (1 of just 3, precious slots which you’re already using on other players) on this nobody player and his inconsequential contract. To get what? A late 3rd rounder or the like? That’s dumb. But go ahead.

Well there is a GM out there named Chuck Fletcher who is the bottom bitch for Bobby Clarke and he'd trade for him. Chuck has shown that he has no problems giving away assets for trash, especially when he gets Bobby's permission to do so.
