You make no damn sense. Trade a physical RH defenseman, who's played well for almost 2 years on a mediocre too bad team, and you want to trade him for "something north of nothing " ?
This is correct. A few years ago he was deemed to be the worst D man in the league and completely untradeable. He doesn't fit our timeline. If we can get something that benefits us, fantastic, but the real benefit is creating cap space that we'll need, and giving Bonk/whomever a real look next year

No rush to trade Risto. Briere took so much salary in buyouts and trades (Hayes, Atkinson, Deangelo, Petersen) that I do not care if people think Risto is overpaid, the way he plays right now its worth it..

Yeah I'm not saying he HAS to go. He's played well. But if he can go, he should. York, Foerster and Frost (or someone in Frost's stead) expire. York is presumably going to get paid, and deserve it. Foerster is going to get a raise and whoever takes Frosts spot is likely to cost more than what he costs now.

If we have a good deal that can help our club 1-2 years down the road, do it.
Getting 2nd pick aint shit for us and creates a big hole on our blue line that no one can fill. I am not going to worry about York, sure as hell wont worry about Foerster or Frost either.

I don't think think any contender should waste resources on Finnish Jack Johnson.

I'm guessing you haven't seen him play since his Sabres days. Or have him on a fantasy team and are disappointed because he doesn't put up huge numbers. He is pretty much a backbone of the Flyers' young defense corps and usually plays in the harder parts of the game.

Knight for Risto @50% and 1st (of your choice).

Flyers get their goalie of the future and Florida gets a second pairing guy to play with his fellow countryman Mikkola. Risto would fit Maurice's system like a glove.

Except Flyers' goaltending pipeline is fairly well-stocked and it's likely the "goalie of the future" is already in the system.

Although the Cup is weighing heavily over our heads, we are looking to compete for another.

Ristolainen at 50%, what would it take?

Hol’ up- you want another cup, so you want Risto?

I’m just a mere country boy Sabres fan, I don’t know nothin about winnin no cups, but- that don’t seem right.

No cap for him.
Knight would have to go. Doesn't make much sense to have 4.5 million parked on the bench as a back-up when the team is in a championship window. Top 4 D is a pretty glaring need.

I wouldn’t give a first up for Knight. I’d rather stick with what the Flyers have.

They don’t need to be trying to trade firsts.
I don't think an early-mid twenties first is that valuable. And Knight is the real deal. But maybe not a fit then.

Retaining 50% for multiple years has value whether you want to believe it or not and then you want a first on top of it.

It just doesn’t make that much sense to me. But I also think this team needs to build the right way. Not the patchy way they’re trying too.

I mean Knight is 23, it's like adding a 20 year old skater since goalies take way longer to develop. In exchange for a 30 year old. I don't know how that messes up the rebuild.

The 50% part is just a proxy. The salaries would have to match but I'd try to get Risto down to 4M or so, let's not forget how unmovable that contract has been for a while. There's some risk involved in acquiring him.

Yeah, no disrespect to Knight, but goalie isn't what the Flyers would be looking for, I don't think, especially if we're adding a first to get one. Right now, Ersson's our putative starter, and he's looked solid when he hadn't been driven into the ground through overwork. If he doesn't work out, it might be Fedotov. Or Kolosov. Or Zavagrin. Or Bjarnasson, all of whom we've invested significant draft capital (or international skulduggery, in the case of Fedotov) in, all of whom have some pedigree. Kolosov looked great in the KHL last year, Zavagrin looks great this year, Kolosov and Fedotov both put up some good games in Ersson's absence... we have a LOT of lottery tickets in the "replace Criminal Defendant #1" lottery, and with our cupboard utterly bare at center, that's what we should be prioritizing in any deal, either by collecting picks or prospects.

Ponder put it into words better than I could.

I don’t think any picks should be moved unless it’s for a center, flyers are hurting up the middle badly. It’s a massive need.
