People didn't like you as you got older... But I liked you, Yvon.. just like I loved Bob Cole.. Old f*cks are amazing in sports media, not in politics. Rest in peace.
Saw a recent interview of Dick Irvin.tje mind and the voice as good as ever. He shouldn't have retired.

RIP Mr. Pedneault

Many years ago he saw me talking French to Pierre Gervais when the Hurricanes first moved to NC. He walks up to me and says...how is a French speaking kid here in North Carolina? I told him my story, he asked where I was sitting and he put the camera on me during the game, told the audience my name. Several relatives actually saw me on TV in Quebec. Really cool thing that he did.

Wow, he seemed to be doing just fine a couple of months ago... Was still doing his daily segment on BPM Sports...

RIP

Yvon was always in a good mood, RIP.

The emotional impact is hard to overcome.

yeah the men usually follow soon thereafter. interestingly, the reverse is not true ...

anyway RIP Yvon, i agree with everything that's been said already. a little slice of quebec sports culture just passed.

also weirdly made me anxious for Pierre, whenever his time does come.

Rip.

My first memories of Yvon were actually on the hnic hotstove back in the 90s. He was a regular there.

Then I got rds to watch the Habs in the mid 2000s, and there he was again. I barely understand any French, but yvon's "bang" could be understood in any language, and ditto for his enthusiasm. He reminded me alot of Tom larscheid in Vancouver.

BTW, someone is trying to derail this thread here with his/her own agenda. Let's remember what this thread is all about and heed no attention to him/her.

Yvon and Pierre shaped my love for hockey, they're part of my earliest memories of the canadiens and watching hockey on television.

Rest in peace, Yvon.
You will be missed.

NNOOOON! WTF! What a Legendary figure he was. And he seemed like such a nice guy as well. Everybody seems in shock in the Quebec Sport World. Damn, just out of nowhere.

77 is still young so if he had died suddenly it would have made less sense but I had no idea he was battling cancer. They say in recent years that everything come in 3 or 4. And we have had William Friedkin, Terry Funk, Bray Wyatt and Yvon dying on us in a short time.

It is special in that Yvon was a great team with Pierre Houde for years then people got tired of him. But when he left RDS, he suddenly had a new life in his career, people started to like him again. I remember hearing him on radio and he got such a positive feedback by what he was doing. It's like he was more free to do what he wanted. In recent years, I found myself sometime watching his commentary on TVA Sport for the less important hockey games and I was surprised of how good he was, the enthusiasm he brought to each games better than the main guys on TVA.

RIP my friend. I hope he knows he was respected and loved.

Je me souviens des quatre piliers tous avec intégrité- Yvon Pedneault, Bertrand Raymond, Claude Mailhot et Pierre Trudel
You must be joking. Pierre Poubelle and Uncle Bert were bigots and shameless zealots. They belong nowhere near Pedneault and Mailhot who are class acts.

I did some research and now agree with you about Trudel. I met him in 1981 and did not see that then. Bertrand Raymond hasn't got into the spats Trudel has.

Claude Mailhot and Danielle Rainville had me on their show back when my French was still quite imperfect, but Claude respected the work I had done analyzing the whole NHL with what at the time would be considered advanced stats.

As an aside, I still get a chuckle when every now and then someone on here suggests I "stick to baseball" because my opinion on some subject differs from theirs. One guy said that I'm not qualified to talk about hockey!!

Sure.........

Bert has a long history of xenophobic and ethnically based bash comments for which he’s been called on multiple times.

Makes one appreciate a good guy like Pedneault even more.
