Tribute RIP Ray Shero

Shocking to hear of his passing. Thanks for bringing the Cup back to Pittsburgh.

I remember getting ready for sleep when he pulled off the Iginla trade. I couldn't fall asleep after that. I wish they could have won it that year.

People talk about his trades to help us from 2006-2009, but he also helped us later with the draft.

Rust, Kuhnhackl, Maatta, Murray, Archibald, Wilson and Guentzel all contributed to those 2016 and 2017 teams and were all drafted by Shero. He definitely had a hand in those team's success.

Shero basically built the model we're still using, for good or for ill. Severly underrated GM.

That said, I have seen enough scrappy sparkplug try hard nobodies to last me a lifetime, so all I'll say is thanks for the memories, RS.

When I think of those exciting early years, he's at the forefront of that time. There were some frustrating issues that led to his firing, like I just felt like he could have drafted better with the first rounders he had, and he needed to recognize Bylsma needed to go. But he was absolutely a competent guy who swung for the fences in trades and had a nose for good value bottom sixers. And ultimately Sid's injury issues directly preceding his firing wasn't a coincidence.

He seemed like a genuinely good guy and it sucks to see guys like that who were such competent high functioning individuals die with so much life left.

Ray Shero would have been seen as one of the better GMs of this generation if he just didn't hitch his wagon to Dan f***ing Bylsma as long as he did. He was a master tweaker of a roster and some of his smallest moves were his best. He also turned out to be a pretty decent drafting GM also, I think.

Rest in peace, Rejean.

He seemed like a solid person. His tenure as GM looks a lot better now than it did back then because we were able to get internal replacements than through free agency. He probably is still trying to overload on D prospects.
His tenure looks way better now because this organization's standards have dropped. He got fired after a 51 win season.
