They're an HF partner, so I assume this is legit. However, I still hope it's not true; that's much too young.
UPDATE:
Hokej.sk has posted a statement indicating that they have confirmed the news from several "independent sources". No cause is forthcoming, however.
UPDATE 2:
The Colorado Avalanche European Fan Club has amended their statement to read "According to our information Marek died on Saturday in Denver, where he lived with his wife and two children. Fanclub Eurolanche respects the privacy of the family at this difficult time and in this while not disclose any details"
This would jive with a tweet from the Denver Police Department (DPD) early Saturday afternoon, which indicated that:
The location given is somewhat close to where Svatos lived in Denver with his family.
UPDATE 3:
Latest update, and probably my final one until the North American media starts to cover this; rumor and speculation about cause of death are starting to circulate online, but I will respect Eurolanche's plea for privacy by not sharing any of it here. I would ask my fellow posters to do the same.
In any case, if there was any doubt as to the veracity of this report:
Various former teammates of Svatos are beginning to share their memories of him via Facebook and other sources; hopefully someone will publish a compilation of those in the hours and days to come. Until then, RIP Marek, and condolences to his family.
