Rielly’s response to Greig was…

You're trying to tell me that if Rielly dropped the gloves and Grieg turtled, Mo would have looked silly?? You got that backwards my man
So you think that the better decision would have been to drop the gloves and repeatedly punch Grieg in the back of the helmet while his knuckles took a beating? Grieg had plenty of time to square up and face Mo but he chose only to brace himself for the hit that was coming. Yes that would have made Mo look silly. He did the right thing. Have you ever been in the Leafs dressing room right after a big HNIC game ended and talked to a player involved in a similar situation? I have.

This is either gonna be a 1-2 game suspension or a fine and the mains lose their shit... Or paros is gonna give MO like 15+ games just because....one or the other extreme is my guess

No way this gets settled with a realistic suspension

If the Sens did that to the Bruins or Panthers Greig would have had 6 guys after him. Feels like the Leafs have always allowed that stuff with a shoulder shrug type attitude. Whether it makes them tough or not, it at least shows they give a shit.

I don't have problem with Greig doing it, and I don't have a problem with Rielly responding in whatever manner he deems necessary. I'll gladly take the suspension. If a player on our team did that I'd expect he'd be attacked shortly after.

Facts

Bertuzzi just floats around out there thinking about ways he's going to spend his 5.5 million dollar paycheck. He's never really bought in. Same with a few others. Been a lackluster year for these players. Could have given way more. Cost us points.

There is no sense of team here. There is the top 4 who make half the cap, and then everyone else. It sucks. Rielly, maybe Domi, and Reaves really care and hate losing.

Mo is one of my favourite players, I have 3 jerseys and one is with his nameplate and number. I love the fact that Rielly gives a shit cause a lot of the guys on the team don’t care enough and it’s depressing. That being said there’s other ways to go after the guys without cross checking him in the head with a stick. If Rielly accidentally had made contact a bit lower and broke Grieg’s jaw Rielly is out for the rest of the season and playoffs most likely

If that happened anywhere outside of a hockey rink it’s an assault with a deadly weapon charge. Sucker punch the guy or give him a few slashes anywhere underneath the neck. That could have been catastrophic and deserves at least few games imo.

Kapanen used to hate losing. Was sad to see him go (and his career dry up).

I don’t think Domi or Reaves care much at all. Domi tries to live up to his dad’s reputation every now and then, but a warrior he is not. Reaves is just trying to stay out of the AHL.

Everyone is looking down the bench for the next guy to do something. It was Geo’s fight a few months ago and now it’s Rielly. This should galvanize the room, but like the Geo fight it only seems to last a few weeks at most. Not a team, no leadership outside of Rielly, certainly none in the core forewords. Tavares and Matthews should be ashamed of themselves for watching that Giordano fight. Leadership must come from your leaders, and they are the C and best player.

Of course I'm happy, we have at least one player that's not a cupcake. It's not much, but it's better than nothing.

Rielly's a great player and a great teammate, he's the kind you win with. If it doesn't happen here, I hope he can pull a Bourque and win a cup somewhere else before he's done.
I agree! He truly is the heart and soul of this team! It shows how inept this front office is, that he has never been given the C on his sweater!
And I agree that if he is never given the type of partner to play with, then I’m all for letting him go chase the Cup with another team, aka just like the Bruins did with Bourque!

I agree Mo did the right thing going after him same thing would happen to any of our players doing something greasy like an empty net slap shop lol. From the reply it looks like Mo’s aiming for his arm and Greig tries to block it by raising his arm which makes it ride up and hit his neck. Hope the kid thinks twice before trying to be clown again.

There is absolutely nothing tough about cross checking an unsuspecting player in the head.
Agreed but it wasn't a cross check to the head and Greig wasn't unsuspecting. It was a one armed stick shove that rode into the helmet and Greig knew what he signed up for with ample time.

Mo is a tough customer and Greig turtled so it looked bad. You don't take a slap shot at an empty net if you can't pay up because there are a lot of tough customers on the ice. I bet he doesn't do that anymore.

Great response. If that was 16 he would have just skated right past Greig and said “good game”.
