Prospect Info: Ridly Greig (LW) 28th Overall

The last I checked according to Toronto media and fans, Knies is 6'9" 300lbs when he hits Pinto, but when he got pushed into the boards he cbecamse 5'8' 160lbs. The embellishment in this series is insane
Yup. Gaudette is bigger than Matthews. Greig is bigger than Knies. Lol

The frustrating part is I think he could have made the same hit without getting that right arm across, and then there's no call (or at least shouldn't be) but oh well.
Agreed. He was frustrated that he had no stick and wanted to take it out on someone. I am happy it was Marner, but he forced the refs hand by grabbing him.
You take the good with the bad when it comes to shift disturbers like Greig, sometimes they'll cross the line.
He is also clearly playing injured, so the fact he is still going as hard as usual is a testament to his tenacity.
That said, Tor was again flopping around for calls all night, Marner dropping like Ullmark shot him was embarrassing.
Right from the 1st game when EL dropped and held his head like he was in dire pain, they have been an embarrassment to the game. Seeing Benoit flop was also a joke. I can see a weasel like Marner doing it, but there is still supposed to be a code for the tougher guys.

It's been like the World Cup out there with the Leafs.

Weird to me that he'll stick to his assignment, take constant abuse to gain position, and not really yap very much, but then he'll go and tackle Marner like an idiot.

I think he'll get wiser in his chosen role as time goes on though. Dude is an absolute warrior.

Greig is an absolute champion. Love this guy. A core member for years to come.
I haven't watched nearly enough of this series living in Manitoba I watch the Jets, and if I watch 2 series I'm divorced, but watching greig i saw a guy made for playoffs, if cousins was a touch more consistent he would be fire, but I do think the leadership will lead him there from the buffalo abyss.

I wonder what his injury is, I don’t think he practiced this series.

He ended the season getting like 20 points in 30 games or so. Excited to see his upside.

I think there's a good chance it's a shoulder injury. Maybe wrist. Something upper-body.

He only took 7 faceoffs all series whereas down the stretch in the regular season he was taking 8-10 a game. The team needs a left-shot faceoff option so I have to assume this is a health issue. Wasn't hitting the way I would have anticipated either.

Greig is already better than Bennett at the same age. Greig is getting better at scoring, face offs, and is trusted to be played in a shut down role whereas Bennett still probably couldn't do a pull up.

should put a poll on the main boards for this one and disallow Pathers fans and Sens fans from playing.

I think it’s clear the org wants Greig on the wing. They have consistently played him there even through injuries and explicitly stated they want a centre back for Norris. They want bigger centres down the middle after Timmy.

And that’s fine. I think he’s versatile and therefore a good option on the wing. Eventually he’ll probably make his way into the top 6 or keep growing into this matchup role. Or do both as he has all season.

Forget Zetterlund or Giroux.

Try Greig on the first line and let Zetterlund or Giroux play on the 3rd. Greig has the hustle to make noise

Greig was my ideal candidate as a winger for Stutzle. Found him like Konecny type player before he became PPG.

Was hoping a duo of:

Greig-Stutzle

As the future for Stutzle. I still think very possible.

Zetterlund or Batherson in package for Peterka

Greig-Stutzle-Peterka
Tkachuk-Cozens-Zetterlund
Amadio-Pinto-Armia
Cousins-Appleton-Giroux

If Greig gets anywhere close to same Bennett it would be unbelievable. Bennett is a more skilled offensive player, always has been but I hope that Greig can be the same level of physical player.

I'd say that Greig is a different player now than he was in November.
He is at his best when he has the pest/shut down role. Thats where I want to see him it puts him in the best position to succeed. I actually think he is a better center than a winger too, he will get to that position at some point.

At age 28 he hit a career high in points of 51 points this past season and started being a 20g threat when league scoring went up, while getting ample PP time and offensive zone starts. When he was 22 he was declining in his output whereas Greig has been slowly improving every year. I sure as heck hope Greig beats 51 points as a career high in his career.

There was a reason Bennett was drafted 4th OA and you can see the skill in his game. He makes plays and scores goals that Greig does not. How about Bennetts playoff scoring... Like come on. He is on Canada best on best for a reason. He can play that elite level skill game and raises his game to levels literally no one else does. I love Greig but your expectations here dont really line up unfortunately.

I'm not saying Bennett doesn't have any offensive ability. It's taken him 6 years to become a top 6 forward capable of contributing regularly, and even then, in the regular season he's scored at a .48/40 point pace. That jumps to a .71/58 point pace. That jump is impressive when the floor to jump from is so low.

As for the bolded, this isn't Draisatly or MacKinnon, who literally raise their game in the playoffs at an absurd rate.

Greig is 2 full seasons into his career. He can absolutely hit Bennett's current levels of production given how much development he has left and how he doesn't have as much PP time.

He is a modern day Claude Lemieux. So yes it is an absurd rate of ability to raise his game, then we saw him do it at 4 nations too. Bennett was mishandled in Calgary. Was rushed early in his development then buried then traded. Ever since he got a chance in Florida he has been one of the best players in the league as he can do anything for a team. He is going to get 9 + million as a UFA this year.

Again Iove Greig but you are massively underrating Bennett.
