I consider anyone that has good advanced metrics and can chip in 25-30 points (mostly outside of the pp) a year as a good player which Greig is. He's not a great player by any means but he's still good. He's clearly a 3C caliber player that can play in the top 6 even if not great at it

I don't think he is. I've always thought he projects more as a winger.

Still his ability to step in and play center is especially valuable to a team like the Sens. If Norris' shoulder gets re-injured we'll need Greig.

He is creative and skilled enough to produce offensively without having to sacrifice by being defensively responsible as a centre.

He can more consistently be F1 on the forecheck and wreak havoc without being worried about being caught on the wrong side of the puck.

He will get injured or bleed goals as the “third” defensemen as centre in his own zone trying to break up a cycle night in and night out.

Greig is built to be a winger. I see him as Tkachuk-very lite.

I don't think you could trade Greig 1 for 1 for a better player. I think his skillset is incredibly underrated and he needs time to develop.

Absolutely no reason to trade him. He should be a fixture in the top 9 for years to come.

You're going to get a lot to teams trying to throw scraps at him. Just turned 22 a few months ago, doesn't get significant PP time, and will likely produce in the 40pt range. Not outlandish to think in a couple years he'd be a 60-70 pt producer with PP time on many teams.

You are being extremely optimistic. Greig has 4 points this year and half of them are on the PP. His career high is 26 pts so saying he will be a 60-70 pt player at this stage is a bit aggressive.

I dont think Ottawa should trade him as they should give him time to develop. If he continues with his 20 something pt pace people are going to start calling him a bust. He really needs to take the next step in the next year or two as many of the players in his draft class already have.

Sens fans are funny sometimes. They hated Dion Phaneuf and are super excited for a guy who is even more like Phaneuf than Phaneuf was. Yakemchuk hits hard, has a great shot but he makes Phaneuf look like Tanev defensively.

Greig is worth about 3 Hoglanders assuming you're willing to roll the dice on one of them still hitting his growth spurt.

Sort of an odd comment. Yak is what, 19? He did not look out of place defensively in pre-season at all. If he improves his skating he'll be just fine. This thread is also about Greig...?

Why not wait for Yakemchuk and play JBD this year? Yakemchuk is coming and that's your RD for the next decade unless something goes radically wrong (it is, afterall, Ottawa).
