I’ll take it.. wins are wins baby…. Get the two points, move on, keep the win streak going and let that feed confidence and maybe it bleeds into other parts of our game that aren’t doing so well.. confidence breeds confidence and good play everywhere…. We can hope at least…

Good win to contain them…. Nice snipe by Jarvis, shorties going in, secondary scoring and balanced throughout the lineup….

Ya I get that but there’s no excuse for a 5 on 3 that looked the way it did
1. Shouldn’t be Burns leading the unit
2. We have no one with an outstanding one-timer on the roster right now. Our 2 best system shooters are in Chicago and Russia right now.
3. Aho needs to improve his face off percent in the PP. every time he loses it’s 30-45 second before we get it back in the zone.

As the old adage goes KISS. Jarvy said it himself, they need to shoot the puck more on the power play. Making 5 passes all to the perimeter does nothing to throw off opposing players or the goalie, and they just slowly pressure us off pucks and disrupt the flow.

In the last game Blake got the puck on one of PPs and skated directly towards the goalie, took a shot and you could tell it threw off their PK since they were expecting yet another pass.

As a very drunk Caniac once yelled into my ear...

At first glance I’m not a fan of this from Rod. I kinda understand what he’s saying but imo this team kinda needs what Morrow could potentially/eventually bring.

I think he just wants him to pick certain spots better. The one that stuck out to me was when to rush the puck himself. He went 1 v like 4 a couple times and of course turned it over. That's natural for any young player to need to figure out what they can and can't get away with at this level. I think with defensemen especially Brindy has shown to not neuter their offense if they are smart and get back how they need to.

he also did a spin move in the face of two tampa players at the blue line which led to a turnover and odd man rush the other way in the 3rd period

i think Rod's comment is fair, he just needs to get a better feel for the speed at this level and learn when to pick his spots

Of course he isn't going to say anything about Burns - and for good reason. His whole point here is to coach up the kid to play the way he wants him to play. Saying anything to or about Burns won't achieve anything meaningful - and I'll guarantee Burns is well aware of his limitations and mistakes.
Agree but I’d prefer he would keep his critical comments about the young d man private. No need to roast him publicly.

Says nothing ever about Burns’ f***ups but quick to jump all over Morrow publicly.

I mean, of the two, who is the sure fire Hall of Famer and who is likely to change their behavior when the coach makes a comment? I think Rod has it spot on when it comes to picking his spots when to make a critical comment and when to bite his tongue.

I didn't take that quote as roasting at all. Rod's entire system is based on picking those spots, especially as a defenseman. Add in that Morrow's still only a year removed from the NCAA where he could pretty much do anything he thought of and there's a natural adjustment to "what can I do at the NHL level"?

Not anything critical in my eyes; it's part of the learning curve.

Fair - but it could also be that Rod knows the kid will respond better to the critiques of his game this way. I also wouldn't describe it as being "critical" - struck me as a coach talking to or about a pro athlete of whom he has high expectations.

the other day i said keeping morrow in the ahl could actually hurt him at this point, and this is what i was talking about. There are plenty of things defensively he can work on down there, but that should be balanced against the offensive bad habits he develops down there, too. In the ahl, those one on multples and spin moves have worked for him enough that it is a developmental negative.

Obviously I don't "know the room" but it's probably fine b/c they know Morrow has the chops, he's just got to figure out the percentages and when to roll for them. It's like the saying about potential in race car drivers: You can tidy up speed, but you can't speed up tidiness. Orlov's injury gets him some time to come up and play decent minutes in meaningful games, and he'll probably have "OMG" moments for us in both directions while he's here.

He’s not our hall of farmer but somehow we are stuck with the retirement tour with Rod being the captain of the fan club.

I really don’t have a problem at all with the public comment on Morrow in a vacuum. Coupled with the complete blindness where it comes to Burns it bugs me. I get that Burns’ deficiencies at this point are due to age and will not resolve with coaching, but they could be mitigated with a more limited deployment. Would love to see Chatfield get ~ 3 of Burns minutes a night

I'm just saying, if Brindy is going to have that energy with Morrow, then have that same energy with Burns and Orlov, who have both been at best struggling mightily this year.

But to keep giving Burns 1st line minutes, it makes things like this statement about Morrow seem like he's playing favorites.

Here's the thing. I liked what Brindy said about Morrow, and I like that he's being actively coached to be better. But I want that same energy for all of our players. I'm not saying don't criticize and coach up Morrow, I'm saying do that same thing when to guys like Burns and Orlov when they are dragging ass like a dog with the runs.
