We should've fired Torts mid-season after he coached that beast of a lineup to utter mediocrity. Then you don't have a Gaborik trade, you can bring AV in over the offseason, and now AV has this lineup to implement his style with...

Zuccarello - Richards - Gaborik
Kreider - Stepan - Nash
Hagelin - Miller - Callahan
Boyle - Moore - goon

This is ridiculous. Have you seen Gaborik since the trade? He's been injured and hasn't produced for CBJ all that well. The guy is on a decline. The trade was good. Brassard is a good player, who is younger, cheaper, and plays a more important position.

The Gaborik trade is going to look even better when he leaves Columbus at seasons end and we have 3 significant roster pieces here next year as a consequence of the deal.

As far as Nash goes, I still think he is missing some of the top end speed he showed in Columbus. But if he can still chip in 30 goals this year and extend his streak it will be acceptable. Big issue is will he produce come playoff time.

His streak is of 20 goals. That's barring injuries or an epic drought seems attainable.

I guess it is. One of the beautiful things about this board is while in the workplace I am the pantheon of hockey knowledge, but here someone always knows more than I do.

The thing I've noticed is that Nash has not been doing that stupid spin move that drives everyone crazy.

Therefore:
No spin Nash = More goals

I don't know more than you, the reason I remembered that it was 20 goals, because he continued the streak in a 48 game season (44 games for him I believe). He obviously didn't get 30 goals last year.

He's actually still not playing at his caliber. That's the scary part. I'd like for him to have a legit center though. Sorry stepan ain't doing it. What brass and zucc have is what nash needs.

This.

He's played well in spots, but hes not dominated games the way hes capable of.

the guy is easily of single handedly carrying a team on his back, and he hasnt even remotely done that yet this season.

his game is definitely coming though.

I'm glad Nash is starting to get going finally and helping the team, obviously been playing much better then last 10 or so games, but I still don't and never have liked the way he carries himself most of his time in NY. Idk just don't care for him. Just seems so lackadaisical and like he doesn't care to be around 8 games out of 10. Maybe being named to Team Canada actually woke him up somehow.

Hard to count a shortened season. He pro-rated to 39 goals last year. In fact, he's only not pro-rated to 30 goals or more over 82 twice in his career. Once was his rookie season. The other time was 2006-07, and he pro-rated to 29.52 over 82 games. Besides last season, those are also the only two years he hasn't actually scored 30.

Good to see him picking it up. Hopefully he continues it after the Olympics. As go Lundqvist and Nash, so will go the Rangers. It's no coincidence that his improved play combined with Lundqvist's come with more wins.

I just love how you have the ability to tell the future. The guy had one bad playoff run and there's no chance that he does well in the playoffs. :shakehead

He got swept scoring only one goal in his first playoff series with CBJ. He's 0/2 and he just plays like a loser. No heart. When asked about his playoffs last year he said he thought he did well. He doesn't give a ****.

He had 1 goal and 2 assists against a dominant Detroit team that went to the Cup final for a 2nd year in a row and probably should have won the whole thing. That's 3 points in 4 games against a juggernaut. How did HE get swept? There are a bunch of other players on that team and they were outmatched. Marion Hossa got swept by the Rangers (a much weaker team than Detroit) in 07 and did nothing, ditto Kovalchuk. Sometimes I wonder if people actually believe what they're writing here or just hope that people won't notice their BS arguments.

The guy is a goal scorer. He has 2 goals in 16 career playoff games. That's a pace for 10 in 82 games. That is bad. Your ******** superstar you blew up a homegrown team for is a loser who fades in the big spots. Deal with it.

This whole "homegrown team" is such BS. Who cares if its homegrown? I have a soft spot for the homegrown guys but that doesn't make them better. Gabby wasn't homegrown and everyone loved him, ditto Prust. Also just because he's a goal scorer his 2 assists against Detroit don't count? The guy was brutal in the playoffs last year, but against Detroit he was fine.

Too small a sample size. If they make the playoffs, he could go on an absolute tear.

Lol 2 roster players is, "blowing it up."

I bet Rick Nash would probably think you are a loser too, so I guess you're even.

Agendas, my friend

Prust was de facto homegrown. He was a nobody until we plucked him up and put him out there. As for the general concept of homegrown, I guess you didn't follow the Rangers during the dark ages. If you did you'd understand why some us don't like that we've dusted off that old playbook once again starting with blowing up that team for Nash.

As for Nash, he's a ***** all the time but he is a 30-40 goal scorer in the reg season, but when the playoffs come around he becomes a 10 goal scorer. Astounding how some of you can defend that. Talk about agendas. He's been a bad playoff performer. That's fact.

I'm confused as to how the Rangers "blew up a team" for him. They traded 2 NHL pieces and got 1 back, it's a net loss of one (1) NHL player and that player was either Brandon Dubinksi or Artem Anisimov.

If either of those two players were so essential to our chemistry that we had none left by replacing them with Nash and a free agent, then we didn't have any worthwhile to begin with.

No he likes to forget that the team was also a casualty to free agency and then the lockout.

Yeah, but guys, Nash is a loser!!!!! :(

I thought you said you were going to be sleeping until Nash scores goals in a playoff run? Go back to bed, we'll welcome you back when it happens

We directly lost 2 NHL players from it. You don't get to subtract 1 from that number. That doesn't make any sense. We lost two of our guys from that trade directly. Then comes Nash with his bloated cap hit and we lose more guys indirectly from the trade due to free agency.
