Rick Nash

Ranger fans got on Gaborik for being invisible.

In every game so far Nash has gone large stretches where you don't even notice the "impact" player he is. He's been underwhelming. As others have said, I'll give him the series before I pass judgement. If he can turn it around and get us into the next round, I'll be satisfied.

But overall, if he could bring what Green is bringing to the Capitals right now, we'd be up 2-1. Nash needs to be the difference, and for the most part, he hasn't been.

Nash has to stop trying to go 1 on 1 every time or start actually winning some of them. He had two of our guys with him once and he still went 1 on 1, lost (of course), and it led to a break the other way with three of our guys caught in their zone. If only Torts restricted player's offensive creativity because if Nash doesn't step it up he's going to cost us big time.

Nash looks a little gassed...not sure why.

Assist aside, I thought he was horrendous tonight.

Not a good game from that line at all, glad they got the GW'er though and hopefully it gives them some confidence. Brassard was beautiful tonight, tough game, glad we won.

Gotta agree. The thing that's pretty apparent regarding Nash is despite his size and God given talent, he isn't physically engaged all the time, tries to stick handle thru too many defenders and he has a tendency to disappear for large stretches of the game.

He definitly looks injured. He looks a lot slower out there.

On that note, Hags looks injured as well.

Nash NEEDS to be better if we're going to win.

Wash will not win without OV. We will not win without Nash.

Nash was limping off the ice to end the 1st or 2nd...forgot which. He's definitely been banged up a bit. That said, he needs to find the net pretty soon or we're not going to be around much longer.

Nash can make good passes, he needs to do that more often than trying to skate through the defense, you have talented guys on your line, utilize them, man!

He's pressuring himself too much to be "the guy". It's ok if he gets an assist.

He got one tonight. It won the game. I think I'll somehow manage to live with it.

its easier to be critical of his play... but he had a hand in the gwg so idk how you could give him ****.. hes working hard.. may be hurt but he made an impact when it mattered most, can't hate on that..

A few months ago Nash was dominating and was #1 star in 4 consecutive games, but since then his play has really fallen off and usually the only time I notice him in a game is when he tries to do some sort of end-to-end rush and stickhandle through the entire opposing team.

I agree Nash is trying to do too much one on one. That said, we need more from Nash and this line or we are going to be out before we know it. Callahan is the only one on this line who is playing at playoff intensity...Nash and Stepan are playing like it's a February game against Winnipeg.

Washington has people stepping up all over the place...our top line has to be our top line for us to have any hope.

Drew a nice penalty too. I think people are exaggerating his disappearance a little bit though it's warranted for him to be criticized b/c the last month or so he hasn't been very impactful.

I am not worried about Nash, he is trying to do it all instead of letting the game come to him. He is too good a player.

You can tell Ovechkin has evolved thanks to Oates who helped him incorporate slick passing in his arsenal and now look how dangerous he is. He sets up 2-3 guys for empty nets every game, but the players aren't expecting it and the pass catches them off guard.

Nash needs to utilize his line mates, or he will not have an impact on the series. Everyone seems to stand around and just give it to Nash, who proceeds to lose the puck for an odd-man rush going the other way.
Play smart Rick! Draw guys to you and kick it out to an open man, also, am I the only one who is concerned with his laziness/lack of mobility? He may be a bit overweight this season.

And in Nash's defense, like I said in the GDT, he can't score from his own zone. Nash will naturally produce more if we, as a team, improve our possession, which we did in the 3rd period last night, and lo and behold Nash got a point.

I think it's time to get Callahan away from Nash. Either put Hags - Step - Nash back together, or try out Zucc - Step - Nash (the line that was out on the GWG last night).

Nash has been blatantly invisible, there's no denying that. The problem isn't Callahan, and I'm not saying it is, but I think it is part of the problem, as Callahan has been horrendous in the offensive zone. I think that trio has no chemistry.

Put two guys on his line that can get him the puck with speed (Zucc + Step) or two guys that can get the puck in deep and go get it and keep it (Hags + Step).

Or perhaps it is best to not tweak a winning formula. Just a couple of thoughts.

Nash needs to be better though. I find myself screaming at the television all game "DO SOMETHING, NASH!" Be that gamebreaker in the third you were during the regular season.

He not only had a hand in the goal, he kept the play in the zone by going hard at Backstrom on the breakout, that's when the winning cycle began. He was that guy you want him to be on probably the most important shift of the game. Everything he did on that shift was what he's build as - he hit, he skated using his size/reach, turned the puck over, grabbed a pass below the goal line, quickly maneuvered the puck to the front of the net on a perfect timing play. I'm certainly happy with what he did when it mattered most.

Ovechkin has two points in three games, Nash has one. While you've obviously noticed Ovechkin more it isn't as if he is destroying us.

More to hockey than points.

Ovechkin is pretty much doing everything, but putting points on the board. The Caps are always a threat when he's on the ice and he's created a lot of chances.

You can give him **** because he hasn't been playing up to his standards.

To me, personally, the dude looks injured. I remember once sequence in the defensive zone where Nash was at the right point covering his man and the puck came to about the half-board area and the defenseman or center was battling with one of the Washington guys along the wall and one of them pinned the other and Nash literally just sat there and watched. He didn't even attempt to help out when the play was only about 4 feet from him. Washington came out with the puck IIRC. I know it's not Nash's job to play amazing defense, but you gotta help out in that situation. I think the reason he didn't is because of some kind of injury he's playing with.

He DEFINITELY looks a step slow and looks like he's getting tired easier than he was earlier in the season. Idk, I hope it's nothing serious because we're going to need him to score some goals if we want to advance past this series.

I agree. He is banged up...might be a lower body injury. I know late in the season he got wrecked pretty hard trying to go strong to the net. Could be carry over from that or something else, but he doesn't look that dynamic right now.
