Didn't provide the offense, but it's still valid to mention he was relied on too much.

We traded for the guy, and really gave him equal stability to what he had in Columbus up front until the trade deadline where we acquired...get ready for it....more Blue Jackets !

Maybe instead of having him play to the teams strengths we can (for once) play to our best players strengths. Just a thought.

If we could sustain any sort of pressure in the offensive zone our offense would be much better. When our attack consist of either dumping it in behind the net and losing the battle or a quick shot from the perimeter on the rush which leads to a turnover is no surprise that guys can't produce.

Seriously, the only people on this team that actually like having the puck are Moore, Nash, and our Lord & savior Derick Brassard. None have been Rangers for 82 games. :shakehead

Edit: Oh and Zucc. Never a Blue Jacket.

Why do we like Brassard? He holds the puck and plays this thing called offense. Nash & Zucc can do it, they just don't touch the puck enough.

That might be okay, having a few good playmakers upfront IF ONLY the defense had one guy who could do the same, hold it, make plays, not treat the puck like a hand grenade.

Yep. Most of the team treats the puck like a grenade. Get it, and throw it down the ice. Then go get it.

It's got to be the system, we have quite a bit of actual talent on this team. Which is what bugs me the most and makes losing prime years of Lundqvist hurt the most. Preach defensive responsibility all day long for all I care, it is important obviously but let these guys play. None of them grew up dreaming of blocking a shot in game 7 of the Stanley cup finals I can guarantee that.

I think that it's worn thin on most the guys, if we do get a new coach that lets them loosen up a bit we'll be in good shape as they've all learned in a defensive system. I think Nash on that team would be an even larger threat.
 
Nash is super talented, but its quite clear hes got some bad habits from his time with CBJ.

In a nutshell, hes awesome on the rush and in a 1 on 1 situation -- hes really lacking in any sort of set up scenario in the offensive zone (the rare time we get those).

Not sure we can make that determination since we've had like a dozen of those situations all season and I seem to remember him blasting some one timers past the goalie from the right wing side during those.

way too small of a sample size to make that claim
 
So, who else thinks it's a concern that Nash thinks his playoffs were "OK"?

I wanted him to say that he was terrible and he didn't get the job done. Something other than "OK".

I love Nash, but his playoffs were anything but OK.
 
Regarding Nash's current weight:

He was much more trim a few years ago, he gained weight over the years, and especially this season in New York. I know he's a big guy to begin with, but him losing some weight will only help him be faster.

Go watch videos and photos from a few years ago, you will see a big difference. If he spends his summer dropping some weight and working out hard, he will be so much more deadly.

This is what I am referring too. If he can get back to this. He will be much more effective.

 
Like I said; he shouldn't be "The Guy." Gaborik was the guy. we dealt him. Richards was supposed to be the guy and never was.

So, w'ere sort of in a nebulous position here. There isn't a clear and simple solution. Lets see what names are available when the buyouts have ceased. The ability to land a scoring winger for pennies on the dollar could really help solidify this roster. Get the rest of the lads locked up and ad some offense.

Nash has the body to be physical but doesn't use it on a consistent basis.... since he was not scoring in the playoffs, why not lay a big hit, or find other ways to contribute.. hitting is still in the game... i hate players with size that dont use it on a regular basis... Nash also seems to lack intensity, grit and emotion for the playoffs.. teams dont win with players like that...
 
I don't understand his comment about his playoff performance being good. Especially when you have Brian Boyle sitting across the room admitting about himself that he sucked. Also, why lie about not being injured? (if he actually was)

maybe compared to the Bluejackets it was good.. but overall as a player on NYR, he stunk.....


if he was not hurt then he must have forgot how to skate. i thought Nash looked like Marek Malik out there by the way he was skating :shakehead didn't realize he was slow

Yep.

But, like another poster said, he isn't fit to be "the guy." He's a terrific complimentary piece on the top line, but there needs to be a big name with him that absorbs the focus.

He has a hard time being consistent. He'll have a few games where he uses his size and strength and is dominant on the ice, almost scoring goals at will. Then he'll disappear for half a dozen games.

He's always been one of those guys who will leave you wanting more. With his physical gifts and hands, he should be a 95+ point guy, but for whatever reason, he just never gets there. If he had the gotta win at all costs attitude of a Crosby, Nash would be the most fearsome player in the league.

All that said, he is a very good player. Most teams in the league would love to have him. He's just frustrating to watch when you think of what he could be.

Crosby has more grit intensity and emotion than Nash.. Nash would be a better player if he played with more emotion intensity and with a mean streak.. for some reason Nash does not... :shakehead

That's just not his game. You'll always be disappointed if you're expecting him to play with a mean streak.
 
Nash has all the tools in the world. For a guy his size, though, he is exceptionally weak on the puck.

To me, that's the biggest problem. He doesn't have the shot of an elite sniper, and he doesn't/can't use his size which, to me, is the main reason we made the move for him. Size shouldn't slump.

Huh? He is great at utilizing his body and long reach to create chances.
