Rick Nash

Frankly, with his injury history, i'd rather Gaborik stay a little more away from the physical side of the game. We need him on the ice and healthy.

We have something special here offensively for the first time in a long time, this is probably the most talented a set of three forwards we have had since Lindros, Bure, and Kovalev or perhaps even Gretz, Messier, and Robataille.

I knew the guy was good, but he is GOOD. Outside of highlights ive never really followed him. What he can do with the puck is simply astounding, if gabby finished with two goals i probably woulda given Nash POTG. I have never had this much fun watching a player in years, with a good team like this and a full season I expect to see 50 in the mext few seasons. That is if Gabby gives him a chance

I find it almost comical that so many posters here didn't realize just how great a player Rick Nash is. I pointed this out ad infinitum from day #1 when we were in hot pursuit but it fell on deaf ears. The fact that many fans wanted Parise instead of Nash is really laughable.

The Rangers have never(I repeat, never) had a guy with Nash's skillset in their history. That doesn't necessarily mean that Rick Nash is a given to pot 50 goals in a full season but the time and space he creates on the ice because of his size, wingspan, and speed will make a player like Gaborik that much better and freer to do his thing.

Trading for Nash was a no brainer for us but, unfortunately, we need more big bodied productive players on the roster if we are truly going to get to the next level and win a cup.

The thing with Nash, and I still believe this, is that he's not quite on the same superstar level as guys like Malkin, Kovalchuk, etc. He is very skilled, and we see this even more clearly now, but he's still gonna underwhelm in the points department if he can't start burrying those chances.

And by underwhelm I mean "put up good numbers but look like he should have more"

He is real good, and I think he can do better than he did with Columbus, but I'm not really expecting him to be scoring 40+ goals every year

I did not know either. But my Islander friend did. We stole this guy. I liked Anisimov but Dubinsky looks like a third liner and Ericson couldnt even make the Columbus roster. I smell a bust in Erickson. Kudos to Sather he has made brilliant moves. Gomez for McDonaugh Hahaha. and now Nash for basicly Anisimov.

it's really hard to say, and quite frankly unfair. Let's ignore Malkin because since day 1 he's had a boatload of talent around him to play with...even without Crosby that team has offensive talent galore (doesnt take away from the fact that hes an elite top 3 player in the world guy).

Kovalchuk STILL had WAY more talent than Nash ever has. He had Heatley, Savard, Hossa...who is the best player that Nash has ever played with in a full season? David Vyborny...how sad is that?

Let's see Nash play a full season with some real talent around him before we make any proclamations on what he will or won't be.

Dubi, Erixon and AA is still a pretty decent amount of talent. Those guys are extremely versatile. can play anywhere in your lineup and be productive. both dubi and AA are solid 2 way players that bring a lot to a team. Our team has shown how much they miss them when you have guys like Rupp out there *blech* eating up minutes usually taken by Dubinsky.

I agree with your assertions on his style of scoring, and I certainly understand how he is sneaky and opportunistic. What I meant by invisible is that he doesn't try to contribute to the team in other ways when the puck isn't going in for him. He won't even try to get into any kind of puck battle in the corner, have a spirited backcheck, maybe even just finish a hit here or there. In my opinion, he just isn't a complete hockey player. That being said Gabby is certainly offensively talented beyond words, and a huge piece of the puzzle for this team...sometimes I wish that I would see some more heart out of him.

this is so wrong. for an offensive animal, gaborik is actually pretty good defensively. he has his moments, but he learned under arguable the best defensive coach ever in Jacques lemaire on the wild.

He is pretty good defenseively and the majority of the time plays both ends of the ice. he throws fairly good hits for a guy his size and has probably a top 5 wrister in the NHL.

He's not flashy and because of that he is so underrated by people. Gaborik is an absolute wizard. Every second he is on the ice he is thinking of the next move. he is one of the best signings the rangers have ever made

Rupp is taking up the ice-time that was taken up by Rupp last year.

So because Dubi is a 3rd liner he doesn't count? And neither does the 1st rounder? lol

I'm happy we did the deal, and happy we got to keep our core intact. But it's not like we gave up nothing for Nash. It certainly wasn't Nash for basically Anisimov.

I'd be happy to take Dubi back at this point, the Rangers could really use a players like him int he lineup right now...

Once Kreider gets going dubi will be a thought of the past. On top of that Pyatt is almost as good as Dubi as well.

Nash-Richards-Gaborik
Kreider-Stepan-Callahan
Pyatt-Boyle-Hagelin
4th line

Dubi was expendable. Honestly, the piece that we lost is Anisimov. Our third line is so much better with him on it and Boyle centering our 4th.

But Nash is so much more important to have on that top line.

This was a great move. Dubi was completely expendable.

So much talent. I knew he was good, but I'm honestly surprised at what I'm seeing. Every time he picks up the puck and has a little room, he does something that nobody else on this team is capable of (at least on a regular basis). Richards has the vision, Gabby has the speed and the shot, but Nash adds that something extra. He's strong, he can skate, and it's not the most important thing in the world, but he can dangle. He has the size and speed to skate through people or the hands and skill to go around them. It really has been fun to watch the first few games, regardless of how they've turned out. He could easily have 3-4 goals right now. Once they get rolling, best line in the NHL next to Malkin-Crosby-Neil, no contest.

Rangers Board:

April-July: Nash isn't that good. Fat. 60 points.

Now: This is actually the first time we've seen him.

We have enough people that don't score...

even if he didn't score a lot I'd rather have Dubinsky on the third line than Rupp or Asham or Halpern or hell even Boyle in a lot of circumstances.

Dubinsky is good at controlling the puck, defensively responsible enough to be trusted, can PK, and his offense isn't as bad as people want to make it out to be.

I'd take him on this team in a heart beat

Rick Nash is going to be a beast for this team.

Those 3 or 4 primary chances he's had in each of the last 3 games will start resulting in goals. Great stuff from him.

I was blown away with that cut move he made where he brought it back into the middle of the ice, but then exploded to the goal with one stride and got a good wrister off. Most guys make that move and just hang out in limbo after finishing that move for a 1/2 second, and it allows the D or F to catch up. He is so large and strong in his legs that he literally distanced himself by a skaters length with one push off. That's scary good for a guy with his size, especially when you combine his stick skills.

Ive always loved Nash but never had the privilege of watching him on a nightly basis. Its only been three games and im seeing how much of a freak he is. Insane stuff, really.

Special player

How is that even a debate? Dubinsky would be a great addition to this team. Losing him was an evil necessary for getting Nash.

Agree, he would be perfect on the 2nd or 3rd lines, but Pyatt has been filling in the same role. It would be nice to have both.

I have no idea how it's a debate! That dude acted like adding Dubinsky to this team would be a bad thing. Dubinsky's a pretty good player, and I hope his career doesn't sputter because of that trade, he seemed not too happy about it and haven't heard much about him in Columbus

I dont want Rupp on the 3rd line either. It'd be tough to find anyone who does.

What I want is for Chris Kreider to show up and be a top 9 NHL forward. Unfortunately, it doesnt look like thats going to happen right now.

Thats not Rupp's fault.

LOL! this is great! Absolutely true.

Ranger fans aren't used to talent like this wearing a blue sweater...

I was reading through some of the old Rick Nash discussions (wow.) and I found this one I had to share:

Can I make a bet with someone here? Within the first 2 weeks of Nash playing here, there will be a Nash appreciation thread.

This counts right?
