I'm still depressed and frustrated that he had to be moved.

I am thrilled with the return, though. No question about that.

And yes, this does mean that, assuming we manage to be Cup contenders by then, I'll be one of those insufferable types insisting on bringing him back for "one last try" after his current contract expires five years from now. And I do not and will not apologize for that. :)

I think Howson did a decent job with the hand that he had to play. The buzzards were circling around the Nash trade so I'm grateful that he didn't make a snap decision. Watching Nash play out the season was a bit painful though. In the end I really wish JD would have cut the cord on Howson earlier and let the new GM make this trade, I would have loved to seen what Jarmo or anyone else might have gotten. All in all, good trade for the CBJ.

honestly, I think it's worked out well for both teams....

It essentially all turned into..

To Jackets:
Marian Gaborik (we had to free up the cap space)
Brandon Dubinsky
Artem Anisimov
Tim Erixon
1st rd pick

To Rangers:
Rick Nash
Derick Brassard
John Moore
Derek Dorsett

can't really complain either way. however, we also have to see how gaborik performs this year and if the Jackets can extend him if he has a good season or want to.

Davidson wasn't around at all. He was still under contract with St. Louis until October 9, 2012.

Thank goodness we had a senior advisor who counseled Howson to make this move.

The same guy who said that Howson was in charge of that entire process, and that he was "very impressed" with the way Howson handled it?

Some of us remember when Patrick traded Jagr, and what he got in return. Frankly, I'd be quite thankful he didn't have anything to do with this.

It seems that, even now, absolutely nothing constructive, positive, or even neutral can ever, ever be attributed to Howson doing a competent job. No, no, everything he's responsible for HAS to be a failure, because otherwise we were wrong to fire him or we haven't solved all or problems or something. G-d forbid we ever not have somebody to throw under the bus.

I'm liking the results so far of the move to Kekalainen as GM. That doesn't mean that Howson deserves eternal damnation.

Most people just refer to him as "JD".;)

At the time, I thought it would be viewed as a Thornton esque trade,a move that, while for a bad return, would prove to be beneficial to the club in the long term because it forced them to go in a different direction. So basically, it was an automatic win for the Jackets in my mind, no matter what the return was.

At some point, the phrase "we're better off without Rick Nash than with him" would be obvious to everybody. Never would I have thought that point would come less than a year into the trade.

So I'm at an 8/10 on the happiness scale regarding this trade.

This, my only complaint is that the trade (or a trade) moving Nash didn't come sooner...

Agreed, Howson could have got the same value back if he had moved Nash when the request was made that winter.

But Howson also deserves credit for jumping on the combination of players he went for. (That is, if you do like Anisimov, Dubinsky, and Erixon, as I do). Dubinsky was going to be included one way or the other to take back some salary, but we could have ended up with Kreider, Thomas, and Miller instead of Anisimov, Erixon and the 1st (Rychel).

IMO

Gaborik < Nash
Anisimov > Brassard
Dubinsky > Dorsett
Erixon = Moore
1st > 3rd

What are ya talkin about? We woulda been lucky to get 2 of those blue chippers along with a 1st. Have to bump that 3rd to a 2nd for the best young wing prospect in the league..Nash/Delisle/2nd for Kreider/Dubinsky/1st

I'd love to know the other ("better") deals that were offered and not fully agreed on for whatever reasons. I'm sure there were packages that were more prospect heavy and i'm glad Howson held out for the one he did. I have to disagree with the idea that there was a better offer at ANY time though, even before Howson's public comments. If there really was an issue and he wanted out bad enough i'm sure people around the league, along with the GM's, would have a pretty good idea. I think its pretty clear the reason it took so long is because Howson was driving the price up for as long and as high as he could. I still don't understand how people could say it was a bad trade for us. It was split pretty even on here.

I for one would rather have Anisimov, Erixon, and Rychel over Kreider, Thomas, and Miller.

Agreed 100%, but I think Kreider will be a very good player. But ill take 3 over 1. Miller and Thomas are 3rd liners to me
