Richardson invokes Zinedine Zidane

Was expecting a headbutt followed by photoshops and gifs made of the headbutt.

Long Live Zinedine Zidane.

Greatest soccer play of all-time(in all facets of the game).

We're driving far away from the topic, but Zidane isn't in the race for the sports greatest. Even in his generation, Ronaldo (BRA), Ronaldinho or Thierry Henry were arguably better. Asked about the best midfielder of his generation, Zidane answered Paul Scholes.
Even if he was the best from the '00's, he will never be in the top tier with Pele, Maradona, Beckenbauer, Messi, Cruyff etc.

Adam Burish made a beauty of a pass like that this season, 90 degree deflection centering pass to John Scott's tape, who in turn sniped a goal. Burish's pass and the goal that ensued were much more impressive for any number of reasons.

Most disappointing thread in the history of the universe. I have no desire to watch the clip knowing it isn't what I came for.

One post just to say you'll have hard times to find people agreeing with you on this.
For the vast majority of soccer fans "Zizou" is a top 10 player of all-time without a question, his ball control is probably the finest this sport has ever seen and the rest wasn't too shabby either. The man has won all the major trophies soccer may offer, the fact that he scored the winning goals in the World Cup final and the Champions League final, the 2 most important tournaments in soccer, makes it even more impressive.

But Let's agree to disagree, those lists are all pretty subjective, to each his own.

Can't really argue with your statement, he was there when it mattered, and he touched the ball with finesse like no one before.
To me, he had the skills, but was never really a great leader and tactical genius.
And it's probably an unpopular opinion to have him outside top 10, but during his best days, he was surrounded by legends of the game, so it was almost impossible for him to reach Pele or Maradona level, who for example lifted an unknown Napoli side to greatness.
Messi converted his skillset as a midfielder into one of the best strikers ever, Zidane didn't have the pace to do that.
An absolute legend of the game, but for me he'll not touch the top tier in history. And after that, it's almost impossible to compare.
Fans aren't very good when it comes to neutral comparisons, they often go with reputation. He won a lot, so he's better.
No one will mention Michael Laudrup as of today, but he was a footballer as good as Zizou.
If you ask former footballers, Scholes gets 9 out of 10 votes, if you ask fans, Zidane 9/10.
I think his name is bigger than he was, but yeah, I won't try to change your mind ;)
Some even say George Best was the greatest ever and no one really can prove why he was not, thats sports :)

Of all the great soccer players....why Zidane, a player more well-known for an act of violence than an act of finesse. The Todd Bertuzzi of soccer.

Sweet kick redirection by Richardson though. He really Ronaldo's that one. :sarcasm:

Loool Zidane is one of the best players of all time even top 5, Bertuzzi is not. Bertuzzi is more like Roy Keane ;)

Bertuzzi was not exactly Zidane level of greatness, but he was one of the best too for a few years in his Nucks days.
The comparison is pretty fair, can't think of a better in terms of hockey.

Bertuzzi the Zidane of hockey?

Cantona would be a lot better comparison in that case, or Roy Keane for ending the career of Alf-Inge HÃ¥land as a revenge, much like Bertuzzi-Moore.

Way off topic now.

Edit: Beaten to the punch on Keane, nice one Frappe.

That headbutt. Nuts.

That honestly never really occured to me because I dont remember him for that at all.

Anyways, thats who it reminded me of.

That was incredible. How did he keep his balance?

Also the Elias kick pass from a few years ago:
