Speculation: RHD: who goes where? Hamilton Ekblad Karlsson Pulock

I guess it depends on trade price, but I'm not sure how relevant either Montreal or Columbus are to a trade for Pulock. Teams in their situation (young and exiting or trying to exit a rebuild) rarely pay anything close to Lindholm prices for a guy who's turning 31 at the start of next season.

Andersson makes more sense
, but I don't think either Montreal or Columbus should trade for him at Lindholm prices.
I actually completely disagree with this. He's not taking Hutson's spot on the PP so you're limiting his value right off the bat, I think a defensive minded guy like Pulock that can act as more of a stop gap to Reinbacher would be a perfect fit. I just wish they signed Matt Roy in the offseason and we'd be solved lol

Need to add Willander to this list as he def. seems poised to be used for trade bait for a C this summer.

Smooth skating 20 year old elite D prospect poised to be on his entry level contract and jump into a top 4 position immediately.

I'd take Karlsson with no retention in Calgary if it didn't cost that much. Fill in for Andersson getting traded.

TRADE - Dougie Hamilton (NJD)
UFA - Aaron Ekblad (FLA)
TRADE - Erik Karlsson (PIT)
TRADE - Ryan Pulock (NYI)

( optional - TRADE - Charlie McAvoy BOS )
( optional - TRADE - Rasmus Andersson CGY )

Where do you predict these top 4 RHD play next season?

Teams that could be looking for a top 4 RHD and could realistically add one :

Boston Bruins
Buffalo Sabres
Detroit Red WIngs
Florida Panthers (if Ekblad leaves)
Pittsburgh Penguins (if Karlsson traded)
Dallas Stars
Nashville Predators
San Jose Sharks

TEAMS I DIDN'T INCLUDE:

Montreal possibly wouldn't be looking to add a top 4 RHD, but it depends on who you ask. Pittsburgh would be looking for a RHD but only if they move Erik Karlsson out.

Tampa Bay has neither the assets nor the cap space to add somebody, though they would maybe look at adding somebody in theory.

Columbus could probably use a top 4 RHD, but they have guys like Gudbranson, Christiansen and Hunt that can play the right side that they probably want to give that spot to, at least for the time being.

St Louis fans I've heard say that they wouldn't mind adding a RHD and rolling Parayko, new guy and Faulk on the right side, but that seems like a luxury somewhat that might not be realistic in terms of asset management and cap management.

Edmonton has neither the assets nor the cap space to add somebody, though they would love to add somebody in theory.

OTT, TOR, CAR, NJD, NYI, NYR, PHI, WAS (east) don't need a top 4 RHD.

CHI, COL, MIN, UTA, WPG, ANH, CGY, LAK, SEA, VAN, VGK (west) don't need a top 4 RHD.
Why on the world would Jersey trade away Hamilton? They’re already a small club and his 6’6”.

I love Dougie, but his size has 0% to do with why he's good as a defenseman. Lot of 6' guys who play bigger than him.
I understand that Hamilton isn’t the most physically aggressive guy. But physics can’t be denied. He’s huge. Whether he plays soft or not, he has the size to absorb contact that a smaller player just can’t do. Plus he’s got elite skills. Jersey needs him. Trade Nemec.

Only one PP1 and that should probably be Luke (or Casey!). Dougie is simply a luxury for the Devils at 9M a year. IT's not about Nemec, it's about building a balanced cost-effective defense.

Devils already play small (because they are). Trading away their top D man, who is 6’6” would be a huge mistake. Trade a little guy like Nemec.

I think Erik Karlsson to Montreal would be pretty cool. But, I'd also love to see him return to Ottawa.
Ekblad - Stays at a discount
Pulock - Stays with Islanders
Hamilton - Stays
Andersson - Stays
McAvoy - Stays a Bruin for a long time

agree it would be nice to see karlsson in ottawa again.

not sure if ekblad would take the discount. could see calgary paying ekblad and trading andersson to make room.

They signed 2 right handed D to long-ish term deals in the last year, and they have two high quality right handed D kids playing in the minors ready to come up. One of the kids needs waivers next summer and the other kid needs waivers the summer after that.

Unless they plan on trading both of those kids (Nemec and Casey), they'll have more than 3 right handed D, which doesn't make sense unless your plan is to play one of them on the left side. Not sure I've seen the Devils play right handed guys on the left side for years, except for depth guys who aren't every-day players, and except for weird injury situations like right now when Hughes AND Dillon AND Siegenthaler are all injured at the same time.

Whether it makes sense to your or me, the evidence shows that Devils management probably doesn't plan on having Dougie here 1.5 years from now. The only question is whether he's traded this summer or next summer.

Buffalo very badly needs a top 4 RHD. With the cap going up Buffalo can afford to add a top 4RHD especially if they can dump Clifton or Samuelsson.

Unfortunately we have a lame duck GM

Kovacevic is 6'5"
Luke Hughes is 6'2"
Seigenthaler is 6'2"
Dillion is 6'3"
Pesce is 6'3"

And every single one of the them is harder to play against that Hamilton
