Montembault in Montreal. He was an ok goalie, but a Montembault-Allen duo won't suffice if Price can't play, and if Price can, there's no room for Monty.

He's a decent youngish goalie and I hope a team gives him a chance, he could grow into a reasonable starter.

Samsonov or Vanecek get traded at the draft, the other gets a QO but may still be traded. I would think Samsonov has more trade value but who actually needs him?

For Tampa, the only RFA's that i could think of would be Day and Somppi, but they would be depth players at best

For the Jets Kristian Vesalainen already signed in Sweden so he's not getting a QO. Evgeny Svetchnikov is one who might be on the bubble. He had a hot start playing with former Cape Breton teammate PL Dubois, then cooled off, was healthy scratched by interim coach Dave Lowry, and demoted to the 4th line for most of the stretch, producing very little, with some -s behind his name. Austen Poganski probably doesn't come back for a similarly poor finish on the Moose after being promoted mid season.

I'm thinking the Jets qualify Dubois, Svetchnikov, Harkins and David Gustafsson on 1 way contracts, then Kovacevic, Gawanke, and Jeff Malott on 2 way contracts
Why wouldn't he receive a qualifying offer? Believe the Oilers allowed Puljujarvi to go back to Finland and develop before he returned.

Wouldn't be a stretch for the Jets to do the same.

I agree, someone will give us somethng for him. I'm just not sure it will be more than a 3rd or 4th. Because not only do they have to like the player, but KK has to be willing to sign a reasonable contract with them.
Only saw him during the playoffs but tough to see why Pens' fans are down on him - though $4 m plus is a hefty price.

Other than finishing, thought he was one of the better forwards for Pittsburgh. Dainus Zubrus-is.

How much is that worth in 2022-23.

I can tell how much it's NOT worth -- it's not worth taking the risk of getting stuck with a ~ $3M arbitration award.

If the Pens can't sign him for a 1 year "show me" deal at ~ $1.5M, it's better just to trade him for a pick.

Some interesting decisions for Devils GM Tom Fitzgerald with regards to the four forwards.

Wood because of his health issues along with the emergence of McLeod, Bastian, Thompson and possibly AJ Greer who can all play similar roles at a much smaller salary.

Bratt's fantasy numbers suggest a significant raise but his actual value in terms of wins and losses make signing him a risky proposition.

Zacha is another one whose contract vs production make him an intriguing case. With the rumors swirling hard to imagine him not being part of a trade - particularly if they move the 2OA pick.

Boqvist's second half makes him seem like a good fit at 2 or 3C (particularly with Sharangovich and Kuokkanen) but gaging a player when their team is out of the playoff picture is always tricky.

From Utica think both Fabian Zetterlund and the aforementioned Thompson receive QO's and, depending on off-season acquisitions, could see both in the NHL lineup in 2022-23.

Slim pickings in Columbus.

Kevin Stenlund
Josh Dunne (maybe, although they appear to like him)
Gabriel Carlsson (maybe, could be a depth D on big club or tweener)

Those are the only three I would question and Stenlund is the only one that I would think is pretty certain to NOT get qualified. Carlsson will be the interesting one to me. Good size (but plays small) and OK skater but just not really a two way guy and doesn't put up points nor is he a big shut down guy. He's OK but likely a #6/7 at best. Could still be useful in Columbus for another year or two but there is a lot coming that will push him out of Columbus in the near future.

Zacha is likely on his way out, if not he'll definitly be qualified.

I think Fitz tries really hard to remove Tatar and Johnson as well.

Kukkanen is another guy who is likely to be a throw in on a deal kinda like Maltsev or a -1-1 swap on a player like Bear in Carolina.

Not sure about Mitchell Stephens, could see him on the bubble but with history with Yzerman from Tampa and a small QO he'll probably get another chance
I think he gets a QO. Probably signs, doesn't make the team. On waivers.

If he holds trade value you can deal him. Only not QO a player that would be a negative asset at that cap hit.

Man what happened to Johnsson?

When he was in Toronto he was a good player 20 goals 40+ points

not a star but a good player

he seems to have fallen off in NJ

Think playing for Devils happened to him. After a tough year last season was actually one of the Devils better two-way forwards this season; though his offensive numbers were sporadic - good early on but then a long dry spell that coincided with the team dropping out of contention.

Tyler Benson for Edmonton. Can't see anyone else.

Will be interesting to see what happens with Puljujarvi. I didn't want him moved but I'm thinking if someone offers fair value or an offer sheet that you could debate whether to sign it or not he could be moved. You'd think Kane is making a strong case for a multi-year extension. If he comes back Poolparty now seems the logical choice to part with.

RW Bourgault in the pipe line, Holloway expected to make the roster next season, Hyman can also play the right side. Something would need to give if Kane is signed.
Would you take pick #28 for Puljujarvi from Buffalo?

The Jets will QO Vesalainen unless they don't want to retain his NHL rights. I would guess they will QO him although I don't know much about his situation beyond the fact that he is pretty stalled.

I'd say that he probably wants nothing to do with Winnipeg, the QO would be to retain the player's rights, but he's not Puljaarvi. He struggled as a pro, as his skating leaves something to be desired, and was far from a blue chip prospect in the A. Might be Cheveldayoff's first bust as a 1st round draft pick.

2021-22 was Johnsson’s second best season after 2018-19.

He had 3 PP goals in that season in Toronto vs none this year (the difference from getting a lot of ice time on a 21.80% PP% vs less on a 15.56% one). 5v5 he’s was productive when he was on a line with Matthews, which is the forward he played the most with.

Most of his production this year came early when he was on a line with Bratt & Mercer. When he got moved around, and particularly when he played with bottom six guys, the offense dried up a lot. He’s a complimentary offensive forward who relies on speed and a lot of effort, so he can wear down.
