Seravalli has TDA as #6 on his trade board:

I don’t get it, as you’d think he wouldn’t be too expensive to resign somewhere in the $4.5-5.5M range and I personally feel Seravalli is playing on the “Dundon too cheap” narrative here, but it’s not as if there’s no precedent for the Canes refusing to pay up for talented defenseman. See Hamilton, Douglas (even though letting him walk was the right move…)

What in the world would DeAngelo’s RFA rights be worth?

Probably a 1st and 3rd if I had to guess from a team who needs a 2nd pair PPQB. I could see Pittsburgh being interested but I don't know that Carolina would want to trade him in the division.

I suppose that wouldn’t be a bad ROI for the $1M they gave him this past season. However, I’m wonder how many teams would take that gamble. Seems like CAR and DeAngelo are a perfect fit for each other, doesn’t make sense to me.

It wouldn't be, but it opens a huge hole on the PP for Carolina. While this team does appear to want to build for the long-term, I don't think making this move now with DeAngelo makes sense compared to signing him for 1 more year.

Even if Gardiner is healthy and back to his prime playing ability (which I seriously doubt), he can't be relied upon for the whole season.

In before people try to malign DeAngelo, partially based on blatant falsehoods (the story that he called K'Andre Miller a racial slur has been thoroughly debunked) because they don't like his politics.

Not commenting on the racial rumors because I don’t have evidence, but didn’t he also punch a teammate in the face in NY?

Is he even RFA eligible?

He was previously unrestricted and his previous contract was unrestricted. Its strange that he all of a sudden has restrictions now and Carolina owns his rights.

He picked a fight with Georgiev, gave up a bad goal in ot (tony also blew the play lol) and said to him "Make a f***ing save" so Georgiev punched him, then kreider and miller tried to break it up, then he later tried to pick a fight with Kreider. So he got the boot.

This was after numerous episodes in which he was the center of attention for non-hockey reasons, one of which was inappropriately hazing K'Andre Miller (we still to this day have no idea where his 1st NHL goal puck is/went)

"Harassed" lmao. He asked wtf he was doing on the terrible turnover which led to the OT winner.

He didn't harass anyone. And everyone in NY hates Georgiev. He is the locker room cancer we can't wait to get rid of.
Let's be real for a moment, (original story Kreider) you don't get punched in the face by a guy who "hates" the player you're only asking a question to.

(Confirmed story Georgiev)Took a swing at him and was separated and this goes back all the way to 2017/2018 between them.

He is. Courtesy of the NYR termination he became an UFA for the time being, but now that he signed a new SPC and because he doesn't qualify for UFA status at its expiration (not 27 nor does have 7 accrued seasons), he's an RFA.

Not unlike the draft-related UFAs who go sign an ELC with the team of their choice, and then upon its expiration are their RFA until they turn 27.

To be clear, the fight was the last straw. We don't know all the details, but there was enough stuff that management let him know that if anything else happened, he was gone. We know he challenged a fan to fight him outside MSG. We all saw the tweet. Other than that, I'm not sure what else there was.

So whoever was to blame for the fight, whatever was said, it really doesn't matter at this point. He was given an ultimatum: shape up or ship out. He chose the latter. Good for him that he's been able to keep his nose clean this year, at least as far as we know, but it wasn't until his 4th year with the Rangers that he got the boot. It remains to be seen if he has just been on his best behavior, of if he really has changed.

It's funny how there's this defensive attitude and all this stuff about just his Rangers time as if he's better now. When we all saw him act like a kid vs Marchand.

As usual, DeAngelo fanboys scurry in and defend his honor the second this guy’s name drops.

People have moved beyond the Rangers dumping his ass and mostly enjoyed watching him meltdown and scream like an idiot in the playoffs.

Guys not worth whatever he wants. He wants to be paid like one of the best defenseman in the league as a PP specialist who’s garbage on defense and easy to rattle

I hope Carolina pays him so they’re stuck with that awful contract

yes.

players who’s contracts are terminated, not QO’d, or are undrafted/ unsigned prospects, group 6 UFA where theyare 25 and not enough games all become UFAs for the purposes of finding a team.

after that signing then it reverts back to team control until they are 27 yrs old or have 7 yrs as a pro, or whats mentioned above happens again.

with ADA he is 1 yr from UFA and arbitration eligible. That’s the concern. He is arb eligible. its based strictly production, not locker room/ off ice. The Canes could be stuck with a max contract Theycan reject.

many of your career AHL/NHL tweeters don’t get QO each yr and move to different teams each year.

Who ever gets him is going to get a tenacious competitor, a guy that is top 15 in terms of offensive capability from the D position, a guy that has no issues dropping the gloves to help a teammate.

His issues with Georgiev are well documented, but as it turns out, Georgiev is the dick in that situation and the Rangers are going to cut ties with him this year.

Ultimately, TDA is a ball buster in the room and some guys are too thin skinned to deal with that.

Thats a fair critique as TDA needs to be able to read the room better and know who he can and can't f*** around with.

Carolina would be best served figuring out a way to keep him. What they get in a trade will not be nearly enough

His only real leverage is either an offer sheet or sitting out. Good luck with either of those. The Canes hold all the cards in this negotiation.

I can’t imagine an arb case would put him making more than his last deal, around $4.8M. Even with that sort of award, the Canes could just walk away and he’d have to search for another team willing to take a much more expensive chance on him than the Canes did.

Unless the Canes are completely lowballling him (which is entirely possible), I don’t really see how he doesn’t stick around in Raleigh, at least for next season.

Is there a date the Canes (and all teams) have to sign their RFAs by or those guys become UFAs? I’m thinking Tony D is a UFA on that date.
