RE the crypt: why stash the women and children down there when your main enemy can literally resurrect the dead?
I’d have to rewatch it, but my only fond memories of it are the flaming weapons, the final Night King theme, and giving Theon the best arc in the show.
Some of the visuals with the dragons torching wights were good, the shot of Dany and Jon riding the dragons above the clouds for a moment was good, a few Arya action sequences were good, Theon's sacrifice was...I mean some might say stupid but I thought it was well done. The score is pretty good.
The strategy itself is dumb. The women and children should have been housed in Riverrun or the Eyrie or anywhere besides Winterfell's crypts. They for real dumbed down Tyrion just to have some horror sequences. The Arya kill of the Night King is unearned and anticlimactic. The plot armor moments are a cheap way to make the the audience gasp and worry. There should have been tight spots and more character deaths but having key characters up to their necks in zombie bodies only to survive, I mean the fake out death with Glenn in the Walking Dead was one of my breaking points with that show and they did it with like what, 5 characters in one episode? And the whole thing was too goddamn dark. I rewatched the episode in pitch black darkness and I still struggled to make some moments out. Fog of war is all well and good for authenticity but it can make for a miserable entertainment experience.
I tried to justify that episode because it was Sapochnik directing a critical battle, but it's one where after time to stew on it, I was definitely in denial. It's not the worst thing ever but it could have and should have been much better.
