To me, Steen was an every day any role you need player. He could score and was a key defensive cog. He was a leader on the team and in the lockerroom.
As a I typed in another thread, he is the quintessential Blues player. The epidemy of a Blue (blue color hard worker - just the way we as fans want our players to be).
However, retiring a Jersey should be reserved for players who were Franchise Changers (not even franchise players) - I don't know that he changed the franchise or brought in fans. I wouldn't have retired Pronger's. Great player, franchise Dman, Hall of Famer, but not retirement worthy.....
Retiring a Jersey should be reserved for the highest honor. Beyond the Hall of Fame kind of stuff and should absolutely include work beyond what was on the ice.
