His experience and skillset is very solid but he's definitely past his prime and is also smaller. Would be hesitant to trade any significant assets.

Even if hes small, he play bigger than Bjusgtad at 6'5. and hebstill play at a pretty great level.

I feel like it might have a Plekanec-y impact. Which is none.

If he having same impact plekanec had, it would be great add

Gourde is still really solid, just buried in DZ starts. He's a dog, playoff warrior type despite being small. Walking into the playoffs with a (healthy) lineup that looks like this would make us big time contenders IMO:

Knies - Matthews - Domi
Pacioretty - Tavares - Nylander
McMann - Gourde - Marner (can easily handle DZ starts, or add B Tanev too and play him here, throw marner up to matthews, domi here mcmann down to L4)
Lorentz - Kampf - Dewar

I know he plays bigger, but my point was more that with being a smaller guy that type of play catches up to you faster and the older you get the less durable you are to handle that physicality. Gourde is not soft, but in a way that works against him a bit as well.

A guy who helped to completly dominated the Marchand-Bergeron-Pastrnak who was at this time best NHL line ? I think some people here doesn't remembered the huge impact plekanec had after Kadri suspension...

One of best 2nd pick invest by leafs over last 20 year...
Yes, him.

Tired of paying assets for past player performances on other teams.

I would rather invest in players that can still develop and factor into the future of this team.

Frost vs Gourde is exactly that kind of scenario, and I know who I would rather trade assets for between them.

You’ve been pumping Gourde’s tires for months now. There are other options that have value as well.

I would prefer not to repeat the Plekanec experiment.

I mean, the team need a 3C, they're probably not going to be able to bring in a premium player for that role, so whoever they get will have some warts.

Gourde at least had two cup runs in terms of pedigree and would give the team some extra needed depth scoring

I don't think it necessarily has to be him for that role though. But a younger guy will cost more to acquire

He’s better than what we have in a vacuum but probably a break even or even a detriment after you bake in the acquisition cost. I get we need to make a splash but I don’t think this would be my top priority.

1- Why should flyers have an interest of trading 25 rfa center ( position they are already pretty thin) who's actually playing on their 1st line? Want a player doesn't mean hes really available at decent price. Anyway i prefer pay for the best player eveb if its short term .

2- past performance? spend asset for what Gourde actually bring... he still a 40-50 pts middle 6 C who can play up and down and in every situation. A team player who will do everything possible to win and playing with more grit than any actual leafs player. A guy you can send on the ice when thing goes wrong and will go on the ice, bring back some emotion and energy to the team to come back strong (something leafs really need Gourde is the perfect 3C in a contender team.

Well, for one I don’t pretend I am a GM.
Second, I don’t believe everything I read.

I stand by the assessment that Gourde (while better then what we have), does not move the needle enough.

Would also prefer a non ufa. I would also be willing to pay significant assets for a Centre with term.

Brock Nelson is my “who is better” if I have to choose a UFA.

Would you do?

  1. Kampf and Steeves
  2. Kampf and Robertson
  3. Kampf

He makes way too much money for what he's delivering. He's an older, small forward. We shouldn't care what he accomplished in his prime 3 years ago.

Maybe Seattle adds a pick?

Yeah, that’s how I see it.
There’s a way it could be beneficial enough to work, but not sure what that would look like exactly.
You’d need Kampf in there for salary purposes, and that would be a positive.
What the idea of gourde means to me is the team needs to start picking a lane with the third and fourth lines, start defining them better and give them shape.

Not interested.

If you are moving assets, I’d prefer someone younger and with some potential.

Would be interested in a player like Morgan Frost, with the ideal being Brock Nelson but thinking at is more a UFA move to make.

Adding a player like Morgan frost and Connor Murphy for RHD make us better without a huge price tag.

Gourde just doesn’t move the needle enough for me.
Fair enough if you're looking for a needle mover up front, but if the objective is just to plug a gap Yanni could work fine. He'd have to come cheap though and you'd probably want retention so if thats workable i'm happy - I want the stars to bring the magic required. Maybe Laughton is a better get if available.

Acquiring Murphy like we did with McCabe should be a priority target.

Frost has been in and out of the Torts doghouse.
Tells me he isn’t a guy you want for the playoffs.
How would our core 4 guys do with a coach like Torts?

I can see how that guys act wears thin really quickly with this generation of players.

Doesn’t mean a fresh start with someone who doesn’t tear a strip off of your arse wouldn’t be of value here.

I could honest see Murphy coming and having a very similar lift in his game here like McCabe did.

Absolutely would love him as Rielly’s RHD partner. It makes so much sense it hurts, and I wouldn’t want to wait on the TDL to make that deal.

I’d do it yesterday if I could.
