Sportsnet: Report: NHL, Rogers agree to 12-year, $7.7B Canadian TV deal

I know it's wishful thinking. But just expressing how much I absolutely loathe them and how they ruin the aesthetic of what were iconic jerseys, and are an eye sore to look at.
People use to complain about the ads on the boards, now it looks strange without them.

I can see your point, personally it doesn't bother me. I don't really notice it anymore.

Some people are able to tune it out, which I get.

For me, they are vastly intrusive. Seeing a big McDonalds ad inside of the blueline is annoying. And the fact our Leafs players have Oreo splashed across their helmets and not a single trace of the Leafs logo is pathetic, and simply the corporate greed world we live in. Again, just me.

EDIT: Same goes for example seeing a TD green patch on a Blue Jays jersey or the Canucks black, gold and red skate logo jersey. They stick out like sore thumbs and ruin what are beautiful looking jerseys otherwise.

Completely subjective comment but I find advertising on the sidelines sometimes adds to the hype of the sporting event. Whenever I see Chinese ads on LED screens at the World Cup (soccer) or faraway airlines, or Japanese behind the home plate in a Dodgers game I’m always queued to think “yep this is a big deal.”

Neither here nor there but just to say ads become part of the atmosphere in an odd way.

Soon I'll just be catching the HNIC and playoff games through CBC GEM. Back to the way I grew up without cable except cbc streams now. I'll catch the odd weekday game any way I can but I can't see the sports landscape looking the way it does another 12 years from now.
I'm basically going to steal from now on. I really don't give a shit anymore.

Can you DM the sites you use?

The quality of Sportsnet+ is so bad this year that I really don't want to pay the $300 again. Games are lagging and freezing constantly. As hard as it is to believe, because coming off such a low base, the quality of product has decreased despite paying more.

And then there's all the blackouts on top of it all.

You say that as if you're stuck in the philosophical moral debate about stealing food to feed your family.

Not saying that as judgment just struck me as a funny line.

That could literally be a quote from a discussion between husband and wife in the middle of the great depression staring at a kitchen table laid out with overdue bills.

The one and only reliable way to watch SN+ is its web browser player on PC.

All other SN apps on smartphone, tablet, smart TV and gaming consoles simply won't allow users to adjust video quality on the fly and it constantly switches between different resolutions that causes buffering and freezes.

I used to watch SN on PS5, it worked for a couple of months, then the buffering became too severe I had to hook up my TV to my PC.

But as always, your mileage may vary. This method works for me doesn't mean it works for everyone else.

Regional blackouts are remnants of a bygone era in my opinion. A time when protectionist owners had the power to control a broadcast area and acquire fans through force. If Sportsnet does away with it that'll go a long way towards keeping paying customers I think.
I really couldn't care less which sports network broadcasts Leaf games. All I want is to be able to watch our Leafs on TV here in Ottawa, all without the blackout

One of the major reasons why I don't cheer for the Sens is because of the blackouts. I won't even go to Sens games, even if they are playing our Leafs, when given FREE tickets.

If the Sens would end Leaf blackouts on TV, I might make them my second NHL team to cheer for. As of right now, F-off Sens. I'd love for them to be re-located to Quebec City, or heaven forbid, some non-hockey market in the southern USA. Go Atlanta go !!!

I wish I had some. Lol. I'm basically starting to do my research now

Is that what's causing the buffering?

THe first couple years I had SN+ it was actually pretty good. Jnwas happy with it. But kow it's become worse than watching it on antenna tv's when I was a kid.

The freezing and lagging and buffering makes it a bitteraweet experience at best.

I'm no expert, I'm speaking from my own experience only. As of now the PC method works. If you have time you can give it a try.

Just to throw this out there- capitalism left to itself always trends towards monopoly, it is baked in- and especially industries that rely on infrastructure. ie natural monopolies.

I don't disagree with you; however, the intervention of government in picking winners and losers has also led towards monopolies as well. I feel like the CRTC is bane on Canada. Canadian content should be able to exist and thrive on its own without government intervention and with necessary competition. Canadians are charged amongst the highest rates in the world for wireless services, it is absolutely ridiculous, and by the way these are the same companies that are suddenly extolling the virtues of being on "Team Canada". I have no love for Bell and Rogers. The only reason why I remain a Leaf fan is because of my old man, but I have loved them a little less since they became corporate owned.

I was always skeptical of streaming, because I watch so many sports and care. I still have full cable (FIBE) and have the sportsnet +, TSN +. If you have the 1 GB with FIBE you should be fine. I understand not everyone has that. IPTV is an option for most, I just can't rely on it for big games. I'm sorry to hear you're getting the lag on Sportsnet +. Hopefully they figure that out for ALL.
