Sportsnet: Report: NHL, Rogers agree to 12-year, $7.7B Canadian TV deal

As long as somebody is broadcasting the games I’m good. I don’t watch them babbling during intermissions so I don’t care about any of that. Just want to watch the play.
This is why I like the option of watching both team’s broadcast. Most nights it sounds like Sportsnet isn’t even in the building and you can’t hear the fans or players. They don’t have a mic near the ice or turn it way down low.

Put me in the group that doesn’t care who shows the game as long as it’s televised.

Seems this is good for the league so hopefully this will help the cap continue to rise.

Regional blackouts are remnants of a bygone era in my opinion. A time when protectionist owners had the power to control a broadcast area and acquire fans through force. If Sportsnet does away with it that'll go a long way towards keeping paying customers I think.
I stream MLB extra innings and they had local advertisements between innings on both the Jays and Baltimores broadcast this weekend. Similar on tgeMLB app radio. The technology is available to loosen that restrictions.

Meh, whatever. As long as the game's on. I watch in a web browser anyway so it's easy enough to mute the commentary and put it in the background and do other things during intermission, etc. I wonder how many people here remember the days when not every game was televised. We're lucky to have every game nowadays.

If I understand correctly the complaints are mostly around the blackouts and regional restrictions. Maybe that’s out of Rogers’ hands. If you can’t watch games why pay for the package?

I have the option of watching TNT, ESPN, and both team’s broadcast and Rogers is by far the poorest quality. Same with baseball.

I had pretty much expected Rogers to extend here.

I completely prefer the TSN and Amazon product more but I have my routine in place.

I watch the game and when intermission comes in with Howdy Doody and Jennifer Boyissheshrill, I mute the tv and go downstairs and feed/clean the cats.

2nd intermission I speed watch Big Bang Theory.

Good routine, and the cats seem to like it too

I PVR every game and start watching about an hour into the game. This allows me to zoom through stoppages and intermission. I do enjoy the TSN broadcast better. I really like Mike Johnson as commmentator and also their panel. Their insight into the game is stellar. I still think the same arrangement will be in place where TSN gets some games.

just wait till some games won't be on TV and you'll have to purchase the streaming service. I can totally see that a few years down the line with less and less people paying for cable. Rogers will have like X number of games on their streaming service alone.

Why isn’t that an option now?

ESPN does it with college football and baseball.
ESPN/Disney are primarily a media company, Rogers Communications Inc. is primarily a Telecommunications company that has massive infrastructure invested around the entire country that also operates a media wing of their company

They're afraid of somebody being offended or having hurt sensibilities, so they have to control every thing possible starting with the nonsense and fluff emanating from the likes of Ron and Jen. Maybe just maybe they'll realize the have to make it about NHL hockey and not the myriad of barely related causes and subjects that they can't help branching out into to prove how important and wonderful they are.

If TSN is for sale would anyone be surprised if Amazon bought them? And massively overpay just so they can't say no...... Slowly moving more and more sports to Prime exclusive.

All the streaming networks have straight up said they want in the sports industry.

Yet the have some truly offensive commercials on CBC HNIC

Streaming Services have no blackouts, you get all the NHL games, AHL games, WHL games, and more.

I might suggest that we are entering the era, of not selling off Canadian media to Foreign ownership.

That would be great, pay for those channels anyway and would allow me to get rid of cable.
