Proposal: Replace one current Leaf with a Leaf from the past

Man that is tough.

Marner for Charlie Conacher for sure!

Honourable mention:
Matthews for Dave Keon (by country mile)
Reilly for Tim Horton (he was an all-star machine)

I can't think of anything that would come even close to this in terms of positive impact.
Its a good one but Keon would come close no? Out dates me a bit.

I might take Clark just to see what that would even look like.

Clark against Marchy, Chucky, Bennet, Ekblad would have made for an interesting watch.

Brian Leetch for Mo Riels
lol that's not the same tier, come on. Unless you mean the 35-year-old Leetch who played for the Leafs, then yeah alright.

Of course, having made that argument now I can't honestly say I consider any of the current D to be on Robert Svehla's tier, but still, I'll trade any of them even for the one year the Leafs got of Svehla in a heartbeat.

This is so obvious.

Prime DG Killer for JT McMumbles

Prime Sundin for JT

Roberts for MM

Replacing Rielly's lack of a point shot most definitely needs to be replaced but Phaneuf could never get it on goal. McCabe had a howitzer and would maybe be a better choice.
Can opener over the double Phaneuf lol

Phaneufs bone crushing hits were at least legal. Can openers became illegal
If memory serves, statistically Phaneuf's shot accuracy really wasn't that bad. His defensive play was a bigger problem.
Yeah ,when your partner was Korbinian Holzer, hard to play D. He always had the shittiest D partners

Matthews for Joey Crabb
Marner for John Pohl
Nylander for Tim Brent
Rielly for Ian White
Tavares for Darryl Boyce

We used to be a real team

Nylander for Clark.
Both one way players with great shots but obviously Wendel was way tougher.

That would be a terrible trade.
Oh your optics couldn't be worse.

Our chief complaint of Marner is his lack of playoffs scoring and physical engagement.

Alexander Mogilny in his prime was a bit of a m'fer with jam and he scored 76 goals in the regular season (55 with VAN.) and that same year was a goal per game contributor in the playoffs.

Precisely why would it be a terrible trade?

I remember Boyce, Crabb and Brent so well.

It is funny that people actually remember these 3 players despite them being so marginal guys back in 2011 to 2013 period. None of the three were skilled but they did block shots and show effort for us on a crappie leafs team

Another guy in that group is Jay McClement

Playoff scoring - Mogilny's playoff production dropped significantly and he definitely wasn't much of a jam guy.

I loved him btw.

I suppose I'm just looking at his time in a Leaf jersey which is what I thought we were doing. If we're doing players in their prime there should be a lot more Lindros, Leetch and Francis mentions.

I think someone did qualify Lindros along those lines.

If it was relegated to time as a Leaf, I'd still take Mogilny's first two playoffs with us over Marner.

And I'd take 36 year old Joe Nieuwendyk over him as well.

I'm not against swapping AM for Gilmour or Sundin, but why would we do that when we have JT we could swap with?

JT for Sundin.

Having Sundin as the top center and AM as the #2 center would be deadly. That would also take a lot of pressure off AM and he just might be able to perform in the playoffs
