Guys like Reeves and Rempe should not be part of the NHL.

While I like hard play and I wish we would see a bit more checking in todays game, I hate to see elbows to the head and going against other‘s star players. Such players that are borderline NHL‘ers (that bring no added value except fear) should not be part of it.

Rempe is going to be running up on as many suspensions as Reaves has had in his entire career before he turns 25 lol two players aren't the same. Reaves crosses the line at times but I don't think he is inherently out there doing stupid shit all the time. Hell he mostly just does nothing.

The problem is, in terms of skill level, skating and hockey IQ, Rempe is an ECHL level player. That was fine having a meathead like that in the 1970s and 80s, but it's a different league now. These days, with the speed and skill of the game, we need the heavy hitters to have NHL level skills (and brains).

We definitely do need more big hits and physical play in the league....but it has to be done right. And Rempe ain't it.

With hockey people are constantly assuming players are aiming for the head or trying to hurt the player, even if that isn't the case. I understand Rempe's arm against his neck is not that, but many other times people freak out. Again though, if he wasn't so tall, that arm would have been against his back. So he has to learn to be careful with hits. But doesn't mean he's some scumbag trying to injure.

It has nothing to do with him being tall. It has nothing to do with him elbowing Heiskanen to the back of the neck, either.

It has everything to do with this being a hit from behind. Which always is a match penalty. Which always is illegal, big or not.

Oh. And he absolutely is a scumbag trying to injure. He's done nothing in the league except trying to injure others. At this point, I'm just waiting for a 40-game suspension, or someone's career to end. Hopefully the former happens before the latter.

He needs to know better than to finish that hit at all. Followed him straight on the numbers, there was no opportunity to throw a clean check there, even if he didn't go with the forearm to the head/neck. He clearly just cannot process quickly enough to make these decisions without being a complete liability

Why do people always go to the line of, essentially, "it's obvious that all of these people who don't like this kind of hit didn't watch hockey when hitting was much more reckless"? Is it not possible to have watched hockey for multiple decades and to have also grown as a person, taking in information about the long-term effects of dangerous hits, and have a change in perspective?

Besides, these kinds of hits have been viewed as bad for at least 17 years. Chris Pronger, who coincidentally was drafted around the same time I started watching hockey, was suspended for a playoff game for a very similar hit on Tomas Holmstrom way back in 2007.

You would have a point ... if ... Rempe wasn't staring at his numbers all the way in...

Even as big of a meathead as him knows that hit is never allowed.

And with him getting match penalties in roughly one out of every four games he's ever played ... yeah, absolutely zero benefit of the doubt that this wasn't intentional all the way. Someone with zero history deserves to sit for a couple of games for a hit like that. He's already been suspended for multiple games for a similar hit. If we had a functional Dept of Player Safety he should be looking at at least ten to see if 'that' would teach him anything. Unfortunately in this timeline we have the Department of Random Justice where Parros taking him out to lunch is a distinct possibility. So who knows

The word "principle" hasnt been in the rule for over a decade now. It now says main point of contact precisely because it doesnt matter what comes first, but where the force is. Not that it matters here, he left his feet despite being WAY taller than the player, extends the arm, is entirely in the numbers, has enough room to avoid hitting in the numbers since he lined it up pretty early (as others have mentioned). He has a massive rap sheet for a guy who has played a couple weeks of NHL hockey total... guy should get a repeat offender suspension for intent to injure and really shouldnt be in the league.

1) can you show me any screenshoot where his elbow touches his head at any point? Im not even asking if main contact is head (its not)
