Today is a day for remembering the sacrifice of those who fought for our wonderful country and the ideas and values we hold dear. Secondly this is the five year anniversary of Don Cherry being fired for speaking about the poppy and how it is in his opinion not being worn on this day as it used to be in the past. Below is a video of Don speaking about that day and if he feels differently today or not.

Cherry was 100% right. The effort it takes to wear a poppy is minimal.

I didn't watch Coaches Corner much, didn't like that much. At first I loved it but it got boring. I rarely watch the intermissions now. But I loved DC for his support of the Vets.

I prefer to make this day about the wonderful people who have served and made so many sacrifices for our well being and lives. I already said so in a post in the off topic thread.

To make this anything more than what those wonderful men and women did is just not worth commenting on.

He has been proven right beyond a doubt. It's basically been encouraged this last decade to just take everything about living here for granted, and everyone can come on in and take it all for granted too. Reality has caught up though in a lot of ways.

On another note, I learned a lot about hockey and hockey history while watching coaches corner growing up in the 80s and 90s.
Haven’t learned a thing since Cherry was ousted…clown show intermission segments by clowns don’t learn me nothing nowadays.

my father served 40 years in the CAF and is buried in the Beechwood National Cemetery. I prefer not to get too political over this day and let emotions get wild.

but it is good to remember that serviceman fought for the ideal for people to also not wear poppies in addition to choosing to wear one.
