I thought Germany did a tremendous job against Canada. Too bad Draisaitl was drafted an Oiler.

Germany is almost certainly going to be relegated. Unfortunately for them, but hopefully they'll be back up in 2017.

There is also zero media coverage of the WJC here in Germany and even the German hockey 'fans' don't care. It's really a shame.
There is very little media coverage of this tourney in the US, too. I also know plenty of US hockey fans who don't care about this tournament.

If Germany had some players who could score, they'd be a half-decent Team.

I still believe the Germans can prevail and win the Relegation Series!

There are some promising young players coming up. I like the 97 and 98 born players quite a lot.
However, there is no Draisaitl or Rieder on the horizon, but more players that may get to the level of Kahun or Tiffels who have been doing alright at this level.

I hope guys like, Napravnik, Glässl and in particular Tobias Eder can turn into legit NHL prospects.

Yes they are National sports.
Most Europeans don't care for Cricket except the British..
But generally, Football is bigger than Hockey in almost every Euro country. Even Russia, Switzerland or Sweden who have limited Football success compared to Hockey, it still draws more attention. Then, there are Basketball in the South, Rugby in France and Handball in Germany etc. a lot bigger than Hockey too.
The best Hockey can dream of is being Nr. 2 Sport in some of those countries.

As a spectator sport, hockey is the second biggest sport in Germany, ahead of handball.

While that is true, handball has way more TV coverage and the interest in the public is still bigger in handball. There may be fewer people actually going to the games (there are some teams with really small arenas), but a lot of people compared to hockey watch on TV.
Obviously it helps that both the national teams and the club teams have enjoyed some success at the international level throughout the years. Something hockey just can't compete with.
Trust me, there are lot more casual fans of handball than of hockey in this country.

this link is suposed to stream the game but ... Castalba is sleeping.

link

(i still share it because, as it happens sometimes ... Castalba (or whoever streams it like ... vipbox.tv) could wake up later.

I don't know what you exactly mean by spectator sport, but the Germans I know have no clue about hockey but love Handball, I even thought Basketball is equal in attention too.
