Germany is by far the worst team in this tournament, should be an easy sweep for Switzerland (Fiala putting up a lot of numbers).

I really hope Switzerland stays, but wouldn't surprise me if Germany comes out of nowhere to win this round..

Germany's goalie has to be absolutely lights out for 2 games, and the Swiss goalie needs to be terrible for those two games as well for Germany to realistically win. moreover, Germany is unable to really shut down any offensive players that the Swiss have, so in all probability, Germany is relegated baring a miracle.

Germay is terrible ***** in this tourney. They belong to Division I since they just don't have it and they don't even care.- It's a soccer nation, folks, soccer nation with no real hockey program aimed to international success. Good riddance, Deutschers!

There is also zero media coverage of the WJC here in Germany and even the German hockey 'fans' don't care. It's really a shame.

This is where having Draisaitl would have been important for Germany, even if they had him it wouldn't make a difference in Group A, but the relegation round he would definitely help.Oilers weren't in whole Christmas spirit for some reason

Basically every nation in Europe is a soccer nation.

Yup. Though I might have been a bit too harsh and outspoken in my previous post. I don't mean that this team, its players and management don't care. And they are not "bad" hockey players as such- only that in relation to the standards and level of competition in WJC ---Deutschland fails pretty badly. Especially since they could be a power house in hockey also but there is no general will to make that happen there. Like in Switzerland for example.

Now I have jinxed Suisse and it might happen that Germany surprises and takes the cake in the relegation battle. LOL

Having watched the Germans and Swiss 3 times each - The Swiss would have to pull a Josh Holden/Canada 97 or 98 (can't remember which one) and hit the booze hard. They went out and lost to Kazakhstan in the much anticipated and balleyhoed 7th/8th placement game. Another beautiful thing was the elimination of those ridiculous games.

Don't see why everyone is writing off the Germans. Swiss are at their lowest point in quite some time.

Kevin Reich gives the Germans an edge in net.

Hopefully things will change over the next 10-15 years. Finally this summer the mismanagement of the German hockey federation was acknowledged and the board was voted out and replaced with some people who at least have a vision. The goal of the new board is to get Germany in shape for 2026 to play for bronze at the Olympics. Of course everyone knows it's a ridiculously ambitious aim, but better have such a vision than no ambition at all. Of course the main problem right now is that they only published their vision but no action plans...

Okay, sounds promising though a bit comical if that vision without plan/detailed strategy is the case... Hopefully we will see stronger hockey Germany in the "near" future then...

That being said, if Drai were to go to the WJC he'd have lost out on like 80k from NHL paychecks.

But German hockey federation could have paid the compensation for that- to save Germany from relegation!

I know you guys are talking a bit tongue in cheek but the Oilers did not keep Draisaitl around so he could earn NHL money and what they should have their eye on is his development which ought to be enhanced by playing against the best players in the world his age while he plays 20 minutes plus in all situations.

Too bad for Germany.

Well, considering that this November it was revealed that the German hockey federation ran a deficit of €233.000 for 2014, and is expecting to be €300.000 short in 2015... Basically close to bankruptcy...

germany has far more players, funding and attention than denmark does.
