Rumor: Reilly Smith possibly getting traded

Smith for DeBrusk type. He re-signed a deal that would be Vegas cap friendly and Smith likely won't do that. Let's make it happen.

This would make some sense.

Makes a lot sense on ice (Smith is exactly the kind of player I'd like to pair with Barzal), but there's too much risk for NYI. NYI can't afford to give too many years to another over-30 winger, and if they don't & Smith walks, they've moved the best backup goalie in the league for whatever lesser backup they get + 2ish million cap savings (they will spend 2-2.5Maav on a replacement backup goalie). That 2ish million cap savings IMO isn't worth that risk.

Is this likely to be for a roster player? Or picks/prospects? What is the preference and expectation for Vegas?

Hopefully 1 for 1 for a cheaper, younger, physical forward with term. Debrusk, for example, checks those boxes. He kind of scores, he's kind of physical & kind of goes to the net. Kind of what they need.
