I wish in the next CBA that the owners demand there be a limit on how many NMC and no team trade lists a team can have.
Nope, not saying he is. Just putting things into perspective. If you think that current day Reilly Smith is needed to finally win a Cup, then I think I’ve located the problem of the great Canadian Cup drought.
Some American team will be getting a gem!
Owners can already limit how many NMC/NTC a team has.I wish in the next CBA that the owners demand there be a limit on how many NMC and no team trade lists a team can have.
I remember Allan Walsh said something like this on Spittin' Cliclets back in 2020. And how if you keave Canada for at least two years after retirement you get all those extra taxes back. You know, we all talk about taxes in Canada being a negative, but if we’re playing that card, should we not consider that if you are paid in USD while living in Canada your spending power is up like 43% due to the exchange rate? I’ll tell ya, I’ve been to the USD a lot, and things don’t cost 43% more here, so there’s definitely a benefit there.
News flash, that is majority of the league and 99% of non-Canadian players. Economics, politics, how they handled the lockdowns, losing teams, tax exempt states, weather, soooo many reasons to choose literally anywhere else.
Housing price difference is enough that all the other savings don’t make up for it. A million in Texas gets you two McMansions, in Canada it’s 6 months rent in the basement of a crackhouse (with roommates)
Likewise, does this person think buying a house in New York, Chicago, or Boston (All cold, hockey crazed cities) is cheap? You know there's cities in Canada outside the GTA, right?
This is a similar response I have when people list "nightlife" as a readon why players don't want to play in Canada.Likewise, does this person think buying a house in New York, Chicago, or Boston (All cold, hockey crazed cities) is cheap?
Plus a lot of players don't want nightlifes either, especially Nordic players who are far more introverted. PS: Seattle looks like a lovely city to be.This is a similar response I have when people list "nightlife" as a readon why players don't want to play in Canada.
Sure, NYC, LA, Vegas and Miami have better nightlife than anywhere in Canada.
But....Buffalo, Columbus, SLC, and Seattle?
Agents and players know, fans probably don't and blaming taxes is much more cathartic than digging through other reasons.I remember Allan Walsh said something like this on Spittin' Cliclets back in 2020. I was shocked so many other experts didn't know this and boldly thought that it would be a game changer for free agency in Canada.
Instead, it fell of deaf ears.
Seattle is great, it's much like Vancouver. But just like Vancouver, it's nightlife is decent at best IMO.Plus a lot of players don't want nightlifes either, especially Nordic players who are far more introverted. PS: Seattle looks like a lovely city to be.
I've been in Vegas when it's been 120 outside and it's unbearable. Dry or otherwise. Everything is dangerously hot to the touch.Dry heat vs Humid isn't really comparable though same with dry bs damp cold.
Also the hottest days in Vegas/Texas would be the offseason where I would be home in Northern Ontario anyways hence the 2nd home near family.
Odds are id have not too much time over 110 given the summer months are offseason
