Regula claimed. Who?

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Anything new in terms of a timeline for his return?
I wonder if we are going to try to sneak him to the AHL. We might have to wait for the deadline for that. A couple weeks ago he was doing rehab skates. There are ways to drag that on if we want to, and if Regula is happy to play ball. But I googled it and couldn't find a source but the AI said he is expected to return January 30th. So maybe that was mentioned in an interview or something

Why did Boston even waive him if he was taking up zero cap?

My guess: He was about 70-80% healthy, and could've played through the discomfort while working his way back to 100%. The Oil on the other hand are milking this and taking advantage of the season-opening IR. This way he's been learning the system for the last month all while not counting against the cap.

An advantageous situation, sure; but it's in line with how the Oilers have operated this season with injuries.
They've been super quick to bubble-wrap guys, and not let lingering injuries fester (see Jarventie, Arvidsson, and Hyman).

Health and not burning too bright seem to be the OIlers' MO this regular season. The latter was something they learned for last year (during games 70-82 the Oil just hummed along and even McDavid sat out games after getting back into the scoring race lead. While health seems to be their lesson after losing Kane in the finals. It's not hard to argue having Evander could have tipped the balance in the Oilers' direction.

Considering they're four points out of 1st in the league, I'd say they've got the wiggle room to take that approach.

Frankly, that's the scary thing with this team: They aren't firing on all cylinders and haven't needed to "kick", but they're still keeping pace with the top of the league. They still have another gear to finish the marathon.

So how did this guy go from being sent to the minors to try play in Providence to essentially being out for the whole year? Did Boston massively miss something with his injury?

I get Bowman is probably okay with still having the player as it cost nothing, but just odd there is no talk of him.

Yes this whole situation doesn't make any sense to me. I mean great if he's getting super healthy or something, free asset. But very weird that he was available in the first place.

I can’t remember where I saw it, but one of the MSM said he’s being shut down for the season.

EDIT: but he did in fact, remember where he saw it.

Good to know, and it makes sense. I'd think even if we didn't shut him down we could give him a two week conditioning stint to the AHL, two weeks before the end of the season.

Regula was a smart add. We need all the talented young players we can get.
