Regehr to retire

I saw Stoll pick up the puck at the end of the game today and thought maybe it was because he thought it might be his last game as a King. Turns out it was for RR.

Congrats to Regehr on a great career.

Regehr played it tough in the toughest league in the world for around 15 years. That's tough duty. I respect the effort and commitment that takes, and I am happy for him that he got a Stanley Cup with the Kings.

Was hoping that we would've been able to resign him, but I respect his decision. Thanks for all your help 44. You will be missed

Wow, kinda shocked to hear he's going to retire. Glad he's able to go out on his own terms and having won a cup

Probably would've done it last summer if he didn't have a contract.

Different team next year from this season. Different team from the 2014 team. Different team from the 2012 team. Time sucks.

WE WON!

Guy was a warrior! He'll be missed!

Happy that he finally became a champion in LA.

Amen! Well deserved.

Guy was ferocious and one of the best defensive d-men in the league in his prime. Was still terrifying in his last season. Thought it was really interesting how he told Deano he could give him two good years and see how the body held up after. Ultimately, he's retiring pretty young, but 15 years in the NHL at that style, glad he's retiring before completely burning out.

Happy retirement, RR!

A final ****** cherry on top of a **** and dismal year. This is a huge loss for our blueline. **** this year to hell. I really wish he could've gone one more year, but what can you do?

Firstly, congrats to Robyn, and all the best. I'm glad he got a cup ring here.

Secondly, why all the ********? Regehr is a UFA after the season, and if he's retiring he wouldn't be returning anyway. Maybe DL and Co. had told him they wouldn't be resigning him and that's why he retired, rather than moving himself and his family once more.

Thirdly, the Kings have moved on from losing stay at home D-men before. Scuds and Mitchell were lost, we moved on. We'll replace Regehr too. Our D for next year is as things stand today:

Doughty-Muzzin
Martinez-
Greene-McNabb
Forbort

That's hardly bad, and that doesn't include possibly resigning Sekera or having Voynov back. We have a solid D as is, and it could be immensely better if Voynov and/or Sekera are available next year.

I'm sad to see Regehr go. He brought much needed grit to the team that wasn't always obvious because it's not glorious, but it was definitely missed when he was out of the lineup, especially this season.

On the other hand, I'm happy he's getting to retire at a point he feels is right. I'm sure he could play a few more seasons at a solid level if he really wanted to but sometimes it's best to spare the body. I wish Regehr all the best. He's a true warrior who deserves a happy retirement.

Yup. He's got a lot of miles. 15 years is admirable playing that way especially after having his career nearly derailed before it started with getting his legs shattered.

Wait what? Just came home from a night out, I missed tonight's game, but this is a huge surprise to me. Most players cling to their career until the last possible moment but Regehr still had a couple of decent years left in him. I mean he definitely had some rough stretches, no doubt, but the guy is a true warrior. When he was on he was REALLY on, he beat the snot out of everybody in his corner when he was feeling it. Sad to see him end it this soon. Respect and well wishes, definitely part of the Kings family and legacy with that ring.
