Refs rob us all by stopping a goalie fight

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

C'mon man. Swayman probably needs this with the season he's having. Kuemper was down to go. What is the rationale here behind stopping this from happening?

One of my most vivid fight memories as a kid was Patrick Roy and Chris Osgood. Everyone loves a goalie fight! Let us enjoy this on the rare occasion they are possible.

I was stoked when Kuemper skated into the Bruins' zone to meet Swayman. Then the refs decided not to allow them to fight when both goalies were ready to go. Last NHL goalie fight was over 5 years ago. Have to wonder if there is an edict to the refs to not allow goalie fights. Don't want too many people getting excited I guess.

They were thinking of the children.

That's just the order they been given last few years. Would not be surprised if they are told to give the green light as soon as next year

Fighting is illegal in the NHL and the only reason linesmen don't step in right away is they might worsen the situation for themselves or the 2 fighters. It's different here considering both goalies wasted too much time preparing to fight, giving the linesmen the time and justification to stop it. If you're going to have a goalie fight, you need to start running at each other.

I think the NHL are going to need to have a discussion about this. The GMs and coaches probably don't want goalie fights, but tough shit, the goalies want them and the fans do too. I'm guessing the reason given is that refs have to step in when players remove their helmets for a fight, and that extends to goalies. Maybe goalies need to be a bit smarter and not remove the helmets until they've grabbed a hold of each other, the ref really only grabbed Swayman once he took his helmet off.

Ya I was gonna say, I think refs stop ‘em because they can.

Personally I’d argue for jousting, think there’s potential there.

I don’t get why the NHL and refs stop goalie fights. They do by far the most views on social media from fans outside the NHL. The people love goalie fights.

because some fake fans got all up in arms about stupid shit like "CTE"
