Refs not calling the game

Connor needs to sit it out, and be clear why. Knoblauch, Bowman, and Jackson all need to defend him. Some of the vets- especially the grizzled guys like Perry who have been around and know bullshit when they see it- need to to do the same. It would be the lead story on every sports channel- above even the stupid Four Nations- and no fine from Buttman could erase the embarrassment it would bring his precious game managed league.

Of course that would take balls and I don't think this group has them. They're too happy to go along to get along and they're getting the officiating they deserve as a result.

Yep, so that about this- three games is absurd when a brutal knee-on-knee from Reinhart went completely uncalled and undisciplined the same night. Connor needs to put his big boy pants on and tell the league he isn't going to help them make $$$ when they actively take his away.

I’m not a violent guy at all but I’d fight any nhl ref at the drop of a hat. They’re horrible and so biased it makes me sick

If the next time Wes is in town the Oilers scheduled a commemorative Rogers Place anniversary brick giveaway night and some of them ended up being directed at the playing surface, I would not be upset.

All jokes aside it wouldn’t be fair to throw bricks at blind men, they’d have no chance at dodging anything.

oh look at that, another thread ban for me while a mod can post an inciting gif.
Which Loser Canuck mod is it? lol

5:30 is when the news drops and Bob's temperature starts to rise.

I love how Bob talks about doing load management at the end of the season if they can lol. If standings are set, rest up the big boys for some big market away games

It's common knowledge the purpose of the rulebook and Referee'ing in the NHL is really only there as a tool for the NHL to control the game.

Like it or not I feel there is a real mandate to the officiating to make the games close and interesting. Likely with more mandates.. something must have been mandated I imagine to reduce the amount of penalties in the league. The trend is too unnatural for it to be the game evolving.

These games are all managed.. not officiated. This is the difference between Professional hockey and amateur hockey.

You start off in our minor leagues with young officials learning to officiate.
You end up in the major leagues with young officials learning how to manage.

Sometimes officials miss a call. Sometimes NHL refs mismanage a game.
It's just that refs in the NHL are 90% game managers and really only 10% officials.

It’s the only league in the world with a set of rules/penalties that get over looked for situations, such 1950’s thinking

It's the only league in the world with such heavy game management. It's the only league in the world with a fundamentally different set of rules between the regular season and playoffs. It's the only league in the world that incentivized the protection of the least skilled players in the league.

This is the entire thing. People always say things like "This ref is stupid, how did he not see that? Is that ref blind? How didn't he see it? This ref is awful, he doesn't know the rulebook!"

None of that is correct. No the ref isn't stupid. Yes, he 100% saw that play and 110% knew it was against the rulebook, which he has more or less memorized front to back. They manage the game, they don't officiate the rules as written. Full stop.

It's a travesty. It's so, so, SO, much worse than if the refs really were dumb, blind, or ignorant of the rules. If that was the case, you could provide better training, or hire new people. The fact is that the league wants the refs to manage the game, and wants things to continue the way it is going, is the real travesty. The league could stop the refs from managing the game tomorrow, but the league likes the way the refs handle things currently. This is the problem, the problem is the NHL, not the refs that exist within the NHL.

This whole issue is garbage. All the convo is about suspension and protecting stars of the game. The problem is on ice officials managing the game. No one from the league is answering regarding the fact that Garland was not penalized nor was either ref intending to do so. “Referees discretion “ are the worst two words in hockey. If the rules are applied equally as written, regardless of player or situation, the game will adapt just like hooking over the past decades. Until the Stanley Cup is decided in double overtime on a power play this league will remain behind water polo in popularity.
