I was going through the picks database in preparation for next weeks' draft, and I noticed some inconsistencies with the following 2024 picks:

1) MISS 4 2024
The pick is showing under both Niagara and Windsor. This pick was sent conditionally in the Zito trade. I believe the condition was met, and Windsor should have this pick, not Niagara.

2) BFD 4 2024 (HAM 4 2024)
Nobody is listed with this pick. This pick was a condional attached to the Jan Jenik trade. No idea what the condition was, but I am assuming it was met? If so, Flint should have the pick.

3) SBY 6 2024
The pick is showing under both Barrie and Sudbury. The pick went to Barrie in the Matej Pekar trade. I think they should have it.

4) BAR 6 2024
Nobody is listed with this pick. I can't find any record of this pick changing hands. I think Barrie should have this pick.

5) SAG 14 2024
Nobody is listed with this pick. The pick went to Kingston in the Luke McNamara deal. I think Kingston should have this pick.

I know GensUpdates isn't on these boards too much, if anyone has a way of pinging him with these discrepancies, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

Now that the OHL website has updated it's draft order for 2024, we can compare the actual order to what the database had. My hope is that we can collectively do some sleuthing on the inaccuracies, and in the process we might be able to improve the accuracy of the future picks in the database.

Here is the list of incorrect 2024 picks, as a starting point for sleuthing:
Pick 66 (2024 4 SAR) - database said Sarnia, actually Barrie
Pick 75 (2024 4 MIS) - database said both Niagara and Windsor, actually Flint
Pick 192 (2024 10 ERI) - database said Oshawa, actually London
Pick 202 (2024 10 LDN) - database said Ottawa, actually London
Pick 282 (2024 14 LDN) - database said Mississauga, actually London

RESOLVED:

Pick 281 (2024 14 SAG) - database said nobody, actually Kingston
- probably just an error. This pick was traded Apr 8, 2024 in a picks swap.

Pick 96 (2024 5 BFD) - database said Kingston, actually Windsor
- This pick was a conditional in the Wright trade. It went back to WSR. Believe the ERI 6 2025 also goes back to WSR.

Pick 25 (2024 2 SAR) - database said Sarnia, actually Erie
- database incorrectly had the ER 2 2024 going in the Kyrou trade to Erie.

Pick 54 (2024 3 SBY) - database said Kitchener, actually Sudbury
- returned to Sudbury when Hage didn't report. Also returned SBY 2 2026, SBY 4 2026.

Pick 76 (2024 4 BFD) - database said nobody, actually Flint
- probably just an error. Sent to Flint in Jan Jenik trade.

Pick 262 (2024 13 LDN) - database said London, actually Mississauga
- database hadn't been updated yet after April 8, 2024 trade to Miss.

Pick 114 (2024 6 SBY) - database said both Barrie and Sudbury, actually Barrie
- originally sent to Barrie in the Matej Pekar trade. Barrie then sent it conditionally to PBO in the Josh Kavanagh trade, but the pick returned to Barrie when the condition was met. The OSH 5 2024 pick went to PBO instead and was already listed as such in the database.

Pick 88 (2024 5 FLT) - database said Flint, actually Ottawa
- Sent to Ottawa in Will Cranley trade. FLNT 15 2026 should return to FLNT.

Pick 137 (2024 7 KIT) - database said Kitchener, actually Soo
- October 29, 2022 the KIT 9 2023* pick was sent from KIT to SOO in the Blair Scott trade. However at the 2023 draft Kitchener used this pick. Speculation has been the the pick was upgraded to the KIT 7 2024 through a condition. That's why the Soo has it.

Pick 290 (2024 15 KGN) - database said North Bay, actually Guelph
- The database doesn't list the pick as conditional, however the article summarizing the trade says this:
He was acquired for a conditional 15th round pick (Kingston’s) in 2024 that would become Peterborough’s third in 2024 and Barrie’s fifth in 2026 should he suit up for the Storm after his return from any NHL camp he might attend.

Pick 107 (2024 6 BAR) - database said nobody, actually Barrie
- going to assume this was just an error. Can't find any record of this pick changing hands, and since Barrie has it I assume it never did.

Let the sleuthing begin!

The BFD 5th that was listed as Kingston's was a conditional pick in the Wright trade with unknown conditions.

I assume it had something to do with Windsor's playoff success last year and since they lost round 1 conditions weren't met so it didn't get transferred?

SAG 14th was included in the McNamara trade to Kingston.

Sarnia Observer said (circa 12/16/22) that it was Erie's own 2nd round pick going back to Erie (OHL site had it that way too).

A Erie news (WJET-24) site had it as "Sarnia’s 4th Round Pick in 2023, 2nd Round Pick in 2024, 3rd Round Pick in 2026; Oshawa’s 2nd Round Pick in 2025; and Niagara’s 5th Round Picks in 2026."

This was from Erie sending (12/14/22) Christian Kyrou to Sarnia for Alexis Daviault + picks listed above.

3rd ‘24 (Sud) was conditional on the Micheal Hage trade. Hage didn’t report. Sudbury keeps the pick.

Also, Sudbury’s 2nd and 4th in ‘26 are conditionals from the same deal.

Pick 54 was conditional Michael Hage
Pick 75 Flint acquired in CJ Clarke trade way back in 2019. was conditional from NIA to WIN re Zito trade but not sure how NIA could do unless it was part of a condition
Pick 76 - Flint acquired from HAM for Jan Jenik trade was back in 2019
Pick 96 was conditional going to Kingston for Wright
Pick 114 was conditional from Barrie to Sudbury for Josh Kavanagh
Pick 262 Mississauga acquired in draft pick trade Apr 8-24
Pick 281 Kingston acquired in Luke McNamara

Pick 88 was one of the two conditionnals in the Will Cranley trade to Flint (picks were flint #3 in 24{traded by ottawa at last deadline} and flint#5 in 24)

There were 3 conditionals in the Wright trade:
TO KGN:
BFD 5 2024*
ERI 6 2025*

TO WSR
KGN 14 2025*

- Since the BFD 5 2024 went back to WSR, also assuming the ERI 6 2025 goes back to WSR.
- The KGN 14 2025 was likely related to Gavin McCarthy reporting - pick probably would have upgraded if he reported? Going to assume that Windsor keeps this pick.

Sound about right?

Pick 75 Flint acquired in CJ Clarke trade way back in 2019. was conditional from NIA to WIN re Zito trade but not sure how NIA could do unless it was part of a condition
This MISS 4 2024 pick is for sure a weird one. Flint acquired it on Jan 1, 2019. Niagara traded it away on June 30. 2022. Sometime in that 3.5 year time span, Niagara acquired it from Flint.

Here is a list of conditional picks that Flint sent out over that 3.5 year span.
- Jan 10, 2019 Flint sent FLNT 6 2021* to LDN for Emmett Pierce. Fast forward to the 2021 draft and Flint had the pick back, so it might have gotten upgraded to MISS 4 2024 as conditions on that trade? Then it could have found it's way to Niagara through one of the many dealings that London had with them?
- Oct 19, 2019 Flint sent BFD 2 2024* and FLNT 5 2022* to GUE in Owen Lalonde trade. Fast forward to the 2022 draft and Flint had the pick back, so it might have gotten upgraded to MISS 4 2024 as conditions on that trade? And then found it's way from GUE to NIA?
- Sept 9, 2021 Flint sent FLNT 6 2023* to WSR in Colson Pitre trade. Fast forward to 2023 draft and Mississauga had that pick. Maybe it got upgraded to the MISS 4 2024? Then somehow made it's way to NIA from MISS?

Still stumped by this one.

The database lists Cranley for FLNT 15 2026*. You are saying that the deal ended up being Cranley for FLNT 3 2024, FLNT 5 2024? So the FLNT 15 2026 pick gets returned to FLNT?

Pick 192 (2024 10 ERI) - database said Oshawa, actually London
- On Jan 7, 2019 this pick was sent from ER to OSH.
- On Sept 10, 2019 a trade for Liam Whittaker sent OSH 15 2021* to LDN. Oshawa used that pick in the 2021 draft though. I think it's quite possible that Oshawa instead sent the ER 10 2024 pick to LDN as a result of conditions on this trade. Pure speculation on my part.

Pick 202 (2024 10 LDN) - database said Ottawa, actually London
- This one confuses me. Very recently (Jan 6, 2024) London Flint sent this to Ottawa in the Braeden Kressler deal. No conditions on it. Also, Ottawa did not not make any trades after this date that had conditions. How does London have this pick???

EDIT: brain cramp, changed London to Flint.

That would be my guess - Kingston tends to show zero transparency when it comes to transactions so I can't say for certain.

It looks like London sent it to Flint in the Cody Morgan trade October 1st 2021 - so I was wondering if maybe there was a missed condition on the pick that wasn't fulfilled - but then there's no way Flint would be able to trade away the pick if those conditions were met so I'm stumped too.

I wonder if the conditions on the pick made it never actually go to Windsor and Niagara had it the whole time? The sheet says it was conditional on a Zito OA season but could there have been a OA season games played requirement? Or maybe it was conditional on Zito playing the OA year for only Niagara?

Yes that was the deal. However I don't know if the conditions were met if the 15th returns. Would make sense but don't know.

Just wondering how did London get a 2nd rd compensation pick ?
I didn't think Wm Moore was declared defected, because they didn't trade his rights before the season started ?

They missed the first window to declare, which would have netted a comp 1st. But they still declared him defective in time to get a comp 2nd. Weird rules.

It's actually Flint that sent it to ottawa as part of the Kressler trade. To my knowledge it still belongs to ottawa. By my notes they did not trade it again🤷

Peterborough’s 2nd round pick in 2024 was traded to Saginaw as part of the Max Grondin trade to Peterborough in 2018.
