Redraft 2021

Need to see a little more of him. He's certainly in the top 12 right now. For number 10, I was looking at him, Knies and Coronato. Coronato got the edge because he was one of my favorite prospects of that class.

Let's say:

11. S. Edvinsson
12. M. Knies
13. JJ. Moser
14. B. Clarke
15. R. Evans
16. C. Sillinger
lol, lmao even. Good lord you’re out to lunch.

Johnston is the clear #1 at this point. Things can change but no one in the ‘21 draft class has had more success than Johnston.

He’s arguably one of the best forwards on one of the league’s top team. Not to mention the playoff success he’s had.

The 2021 draft class is deep and could become one of the better ones in recent memories. Should be a fun one to follow.

Any list with Edvinsson outside the top 5 is completely unserious.

1) Wyatt Johnston
2) Kent Johnson
3) Dylan Guenther
4) Luke Hughes
5) Matty Beniers
6) Mason McTavish
7) William Eklund
8) Matthew Knies
9) Simon Edvinsson
10) Owen Power

  1. W. Johnston
  2. L. Hughes
  3. O. Power
  4. D. Guenther
  5. W. Eklund
  6. M. McTavish
  7. M. Beniers
  8. L. Stankoven
  9. K. Johnson
  10. M. Coronato

Edvinsson has to be there, I'd also say I don't think Stankoven or Coronato should be ahead of Knies at this time as Knies has been a much more productive player at the NHL level, and has more intangibles.

Still early days, but Johnston is the only big riser i see so far. Otherwise it looks like the top-10 of the draft is stacked, and each team got a really good player. Well, if we discount Boucher. But outside of Johnston there was quite a big drop-off after number 10.

Johnston gets 1st based on positon, i mean a 1st line center at 21 playing 19 min a night is hard to pass on.

Personally, i would not pick Power over Edvinsson, but i think Edvinsson has to play a full season first before putting him ahead of Power.

How is Johnson behind Beniers?

  1. Hughes

I guess something like this. I feel pretty solidly about the top 2. There’s quite a bit of room for movement after that
No bias there.

ETA: Have Beniers slightly ahead of Eklund because he plays a more premium position. Power falls out of top 10 rather easily.
Kent Johnson is 10 ????

Powers is not in the top 10????

NOTE TO SELF : Don't read garbage threads like this.

Off the top of my head

Luke
Edvinsson
Wyatt Johnson
Power
Clarke
Guenther
Beniers
McTavish
Kent Johnson
Eklund

HMs:
Moser
Sillinger
Knies
Zellwegger
Cossa
I'm not sure Wyatt Johnson is but Wyatt Johnston is the best player in this draft.

It was a bit bewildering to see how a guy who does all that is still well under PPG pace on one of the best teams in the league, yes.

He’s still in the top 30 among centers in points and points per game over the last two years. And because Dallas is a good and deep team, he doesn’t quite play the minutes he would on a weaker one.

Yeah, that's fair. You can take Johnston and that's reasonable.

But just to say, Ed is just as rare as a 22 yo defenseman playing extremely tough minutes and excelling with 0 PP time and primarily defensive zone starts. There are essentially zero other U24 dmen with similarly challenging deployment to him.

And no, being on a good team that makes the playoffs is not points in favor of a player. Otherwise Bedard and Celebrini would suck compared to Johnston, which is absurd.

It’s not about punishing someone for not making the playoffs, but it’s equally absurd to ignore someone performing well in the playoffs. If it’s close between players, knowing someone can handle the playoffs is a plus in his favour.

He's definitely not the clear cut #1 at this point. The arguably number one, sure. One great playoff run for a forward doesn't just move you clearly ahead of a couple guys looking like number one dmen.
