Red Dead Redemption 2 - Reder and Deader

R* made a poor design choice by aiming for realism. Lots of game mechanics are too slow and deliberate.

I’ve not finished the game yet, I think I’m on Chapter 4 from what I remember. I do know the game really picks up in Chapter 2 so i recommend everyone plays it. The storylines and gameplay are linear but honestly most games are.

TW3 is a masterpiece but most of the missions are: go to area, Witcher sense, press A on all the red stuff, go fight baddies. What it has in common with RDR2 is that the narrative and world is so immersive and impressive you don’t really care about anything else.

They definitely did not make a bad choice going for realism. That’s not going to click for everyone but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad choice.

It’s one of the greatest games ever made and the sales show it sure clicked with a lot of people.

He's talking about the actual player movement being slow, which i agree. I've played the first 20 hours maybe four different times and I just can't get past it. Same thing with Witcher 3.
I still struggle with trying to use my other non pistol weapons and for most of the chapters l rlied on pistol and dead eye until it became untenable.

I think the realism is good, but agree a bit on the slowness.

I would've done a couple more replays if I didn't have to slog through the prologue in the snow for a few hours. I wish there was a way to bypass it and plop you into Horseshoe Overlook.

I know some people just keep a save starting in Chapter 2 and when they want to start a new game they just load from that one.

In the beginning I was also turned off by the realism making certain acts slow, such as taking 10 seconds to skin a dead animal cause I was playing other fast-paced games simultaneously.

But after a while, when I started focusing on RDR2, I got used to it and in a way made it more enjoyable cause I get to relax and chill out a bit more while playing.

RDR2 is a bit slow but the things you can do in open world are astounding. I need to start playing again, because when I was really engaged in the game the most funniest things would happen like me lassoing random people or cops and then riding off with the horse

I think I said this before but I met the Mexican by the train who offered a shooting contest. I failed of course with my revolver and he was like "You need to pay me 10 dollars bro" and then I just shot him and rode off

Also some of the missions have multiple outcomes, I went to collect a debt and the guy got belligerent with me so I got in a fistfight with him and then his son got upset and said the money was all under his bed. When I looked the mission up on Youtube there was another option that would have happened had he stayed alive

I went all the way up to the mission with
Bronte's mansion raid
and then tapered off after that

I try to play in 3-5 hour blocks.

If I close the doors, light a few candles, put on the headphones, smoke and drink ..... about hour 2 to hour 4 I am transformed. I have severed my real life stress from my consciousness. I dont think 46 year old suburban dad thoughts ... I dont think about kids, mortgages, pissed off clients, family members battling cancer

I can truly feel the water running through my toes as I stand there fishing ankle deep in some beautiful spot, watching the sun crawl across the sky.

Maybe a big beautiful Western Bull Moose comes strolling by.

Or a beaver.

Or you can just hatchet people to death .. all hand to hand combat kills.

All I know is ... its meditation.

Its the carrot that gets dangled at the end of the stick that keeps me going to work and sloggin through work/kids/stress

Toes in the water
Ass in the sand
No a worry in the world
Got a cold beer in my hand
Life in RDR was good today
