Stumbled upon some 3* wolves while hunting the Legendary Elk (I think it was the elk. There were geysers in the area) Just spent 2 hours hunting and sleeping and hunting some more for a cougar. No luck. Just need the cougar for the last Satchel.

At St Denis police station after picking up a bounty the officer says to me “bonne chance!” as I leave through the doors.

With all its flaws i have a hard time not loving this game.

Suppose I’m still going very slow. Still on chapter 4.

just attended a high society party. Just as I was groaning to myself “OMG am I gonna have to ride 5 mins to a store and then buy some clothes then ride 5 mins to a party then walk around the party slowly and then have a shootout?!” But then the game cut right to my crew riding in a carriage dressed in their penguin suits already arriving at the party.

We’re well into the rockstar formula though. It’s the most lovingly made rockstar game ever, but it’s still a rockstar game.

Donate perfect pelts to Pearson as soon as you can, he'll hold onto them for crafting. This is one of those things that the game is frustratingly vague about, it caused me a good amount of grief early on.

So take them to Pearson and not the trapper? I killed the legendary wolf and rode all the way to St Denis to the trapper because I thought you needed to take them to him.

Oh I clicked on that spoiler a few posts up and that was a huge mistake, that's beyond a spoiler.

Legendary pelts take to the trapper. The game won't let you give them to Pearson. Perfect pelts take to Pearson, specifically the ones you need to make the satchels.

Cool thanks. Just wish there was a faster way to get them to Pearson or the trapper, kinda makes hunting in the north annoying.

Agreed. They made the north a dead zone. No train station or stagecoaches. I guess it adds to the immersion with having to trek deep out into the wild but I don't understand why there isn't a trapper up there, especially since some of the best hunting in the game is up north.

Finally started chapter 2, Lenny kept dying on the train heist so much that it gave me the option to skip a checkpoint lol i went from starting on the top of the train to getting chocked by the conductor. Finally in the big world now. As far as hunting goes, how does it work? Do you skin the animal where you kill it or take it back to camp? Once you skin it and he's holding the pelt, then what?

If i plan to hunt a few animals before i return to camp i will skin them first. For pelts or skins. Small animals you will just auto store them in your satchel. For large animals go over to your horse and you will get a store option. For medium sized animals it will lay them on the horses back flat so you can store a few. For large animals like bear it will store them on the back rolled up. You can only store one of those (but still the medium sized pelts underneath). Also on each side of the horse you can store small two small animal carcasses(like rabbits, turkey), one on each side.

If you just kill one large animal on the way back to camp (a deer for example). Just pick up the entire thing and stow it on the back. Ride into camp and skin it once you are there. That way you can donate both the pelt and the full carcass. Also, something the game doesn't tell you. As long as your horse is in camp (near the other horses) you can pull donate items from them. So you don't need to grab the pelt off there back just leave them there and go to Pearson and you will see what the horse has as an option to donate.

- If you are hunting for crafting (either from the camp or trapper) only worry about 3 star animals. Anything you want to craft requires perfect pelts.
- When you are donating pelts to the camp, on each item the prompt will change from donate for "funds", "provisions", "crafting". Crafting means you need do donate this item to craft something. Once you have nothing left to craft from the camp with that animal type it changes to "funds" and then you will only get money. Trapper has much more to craft with so if you have a perfect pelt/skin that the camp doesn't need to craft go to the trapper next and sell it. Then it can be used to craft items from the trapper.

Where in the hell does one find a perfect cougar and wolf pelt?
I've found them in the northern parts of the map up in the mountains. They've been random encounters for me and they just attack you. Kill them with a rifle, I use the springfield.

The trapper north of Strawberry is a good place to find cougars. Just run up and down the path near the trapper until cougars pop out. Having the Legendary Elk trinket will also help you get better pelts.

WTF I already turned this bitch down for the theatre but Arthur still got all clingy and lame dropping her off at the trolley.

I hate those kind of non choices in games. My choice had no actual bearing on the story

Also when I got her broach back I didn’t kill anybody but Arthur still says “you don’t wanna now” when she asks how he got it. I chased some dudes on horseback and then I paid $100 to take the broach back peacefully! Why wouldn’t ya tell her Arthur?!

Finished the game , and was amazed how much of the map is still "cloudy" . Like 75% seems untouched. Rode around for an hour and "de-clouded" what I think is the southwest map border, as there's cliffs and the Rio bravo. But there's still a ton of map left.

But there honestly wasn't much there in the southwest, except fort mercer.

Did you guys find anything cool in the "clouded" perimeter when you beat the game .
I didn't even find any towns.

And there is clouded area in parts that are inaccessible except through glitching . I guess they're destined to remain cloudy.

This area is the Red Dead Redemption 1 map. The original went as far as Blackwater and Tall Tree's.

I'd assume they'll be adding some kind of DLC at some point to introduce that part of the map in larger detail, I hope so anyway.

Yeah, I remember , but that game had villages and things to see and do. I haven't encountered anything really interactive in the "new" "old" world. I wonder if there's much.

I hijacked a train to rob and after I drove it to a safe place, all the passengers were magically gone. But I did get two cans of strawberries and a bottle of hair tonic, so it wasn't a total loss.

Been going after legendary pelts lately. The easiest one was the Wolf, that little a-hole charges you automatically. The Moose was easy but be ready to plug it. Remember it doesn't matter what weapon you use to take them down, just take them down. I just use the carbine repeater with high velocity rounds and haven't had a problem yet. Albeit, haven't gone after the bear or buffalo.

Another tip if you're early on - buy the varmint rifle as soon as you can (I think it's after chapter one) and keep it equipped as you ride around. You can get a lot of perfect pelts just by hitting the aim button whenever you see something small running around. You'll feel a lot better when you're crafting the satchels and losing your mind trying to find the cougar knowing that you don't have to also chase down little things like a perfect squirrel or badger.

Yeah, for the people who are doing legendary pelts, you can use any single gun because they will always be perfect.

I grabbed a perfect male buck elk pelt yesterday, but had to drop it to finish the gunslinger stranger mission. FML.
