Waiting on GMGM official announcement.
$2.7M isn't all that bad, and the scale isn't linear lol. It's all good, and I'm glad he's coming back tbh.
W. T. F....I thought that 2.7 was total over two years and I thought that was fair.
This is just terribad. At least it’s only two years so his possible buy out isn’t too costly after next season.
You don't waste a buyout on this contract. You save a buyout for a long term, big money deal that is weighing down the team's cap. This is just a short term stupid deal. I'm still hoping it's not true. Maybe it's time more people give the scouting department credit for this team and less to GMGM.
Several fans are letting Ken at sinbin have it. It's obvious that it's him trying to justify Reaves getting paid. Like I said, there's room for a good local hockey blog here run by someone with good hockey knowledge. Jason is ok, but Ken is ****ing awful. My girlfriend has the same amount of hockey knowledge than him, maybe more.
On principle, it's stupid. He gets an extra 1 m for getting the tip in to send us to the Finals. You don't pay fourth liners that kind of money unless your team is so stacked that your fourth liners are 20-30 point guys.eh, I'm not worried about money.
Term is key.
McPhee still thinks we need that tough guy as part of the toolbox. On principle, it's stupid. He gets an extra 1 m for getting the tip in to send us to the Finals. You don't pay fourth liners that kind of money unless your team is so stacked that your fourth liners are 20-30 point guys.
Well Glass and Hague won't need contracts until 3 years after they start playing. That's not my concern.McPhee still thinks we need that tough guy as part of the toolbox.
Like I said, I'm not super worried about the money. GMGM's got plenty of space and (apparently) no internal cap.
We need to make sure we've still got space when it comes time to pay the young kids, though. Force the window open for the next 1-3 years and have enough space to keep Glass/Hague/etc around when it's time to pay.

I'd pay Belly too much for shorter term too. There's no need to do it, but I feel like having cap flexibility in 3-5 years is more important than not overpaying a guy this year or next. It's not good for future negotiations and helps to drive up the prices for 4th liners. How is he getting almost twice as much as Bellemare for twice as long?!
You can find a tough guy with some skill and sign them for 1.5M less, especially if you'rewilling to give them two years. No need to waste that cap space on things you don't have to just because you have it.

I get what you're saying, I just don't think it matters.I feel like this is a flawed argument. If you make this argument because we sign Stastny for bigger money that's one thing but not Reaves.
If they paid a Perron or Neal like 7M, 2 years that's the type of deal for that argument. Not 4th line grinders almost 3M. We would never have to pay anything close to that in three years to be competitive and shouldn't have now.
You never need to spend over 1.3M (and certainly not 2.8M) for a guy who plays 8 minutes a night and may spend 1/3 of the season in the press box and get you single digit points. We don't save money year 3, we waste a million of it in year 1 and 2.

If Foley doesn't care, I don't care. Sign the best guys you can and keep them if they fit while you've got the dough. They obviously like Reaves enough to overpay him for less term and didn't like Perron enough to do the same. Perron going 4x4 is surprising to me, I would have assumed he'd want some more term. There must be something else working in the room the explains both moves.
I think Stastny replaces Perron or Neal by moving Haula to the wing. Plus, Tuch is a 2nd liner now, so there's the top two lines.I suppose but we do have Theodore, Miller and Karlsson this year and Tuch next year due raises.
If we really want EK (and Ryan) and are trying to re-sign Neal...it gets real tight these two years unless some money is moving out too.

If Ryan and EK come, then we've got some shuffling to do. We've also still got Glass if he comes out to play, Hyka, Pirri, guys like that. And the 4th line is solidified now.
I think we're fine, and paying a $1MM/year premium to have a guy you already like for only two years doesn't seem like a huge issue in my eyes. Honestly, I'd likely be willing to overpay every solid 4th liner that I like and fits the team extra money for less term if I was a GM.
I'd keep Eakin at 3C, Tatar on the wing, Carp/whoever on the other wing.So shuffling would be Eakin gone, wouldn't it? I don't see anyone else besides him and Tatar who we would feel comfortable moving who would make enough difference cap wise.
