Re Signing Laine

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord Server
I wonder how deeply buried this thread is going to be when Laine has a cold streak and the novelty has worn off? lol

Real talk though, there's no need to address this right now, play out the rest of this season and go from there.

If things go well for the player and team, they'll find common ground for an extension.

The good times are rollin' right now and that's great, but how will we all feel when he's not shooting 24% and the PP goals have dried up?
He's not Brian Savage. When he plays, he's consistently ppg and he's entering his prime, so ceiling should grow. Very curious to see how he handles his contract negotiations. Hopefully more like Slaf than PK.

See how the season goes, recall everyone wanting to resign Vanek back in the day after a good start then he finished the season on the 4th line - some of that was the toenail tosser’s fault of course but let’s see how Laine does next 40 games. Ideally he starts producing at 5/5 but hard with his boat anchor line mates

You wait until the end, that's it. Guy will want to get paid if he lights it up. If a deal cannot be reached, you get a haul at the 2026 TDL.
Yup...........no rush, Let's hope he continues to produce, and is happy. He sure seems like a guy who wants to be happy, as much as he is rich..............does that mean he could give the habs a discount?? Maybe, but moot point at this time.

Enjoy the ride guys, we have not had a goalscorer like this since???? 30-40-50 years?

Exactly. We have the luxury of time to get a better idea of what we got and we have the money to resign him to whatever market contract he will deserve.

It's too soon to tell -- it's only been 9 games. Can Laine stay healthy -- both physically and mentally? If so, what will his asking price be in a new contract? Will he even want to stay in Montreal?
Mentally I'm not worried. Some guys feed off passion crazy cities like MTL. Laine is that dude, I think he turns a corner there for good. Gone are the days of mental struggles.

Physically is another story, we'll see. I'm feeling optimistic tho

Not part of the plan to have a core forward who is older than Suzuki. Wait until the very end to maybe sign him to a contract free of anything close to a NMC.
Planning is everything the plan is nothing.

Are you really in antartica?

Hockey as profession is injury prone.

Laine looked like current Dach for 3-5 games after he came back from concussion in CBJ. Outside of that, he's at least a PPG player

Dach is maybe showing signs of improvement at 35 games?

Should not be comparing though. Everyone understands they're a very different level of talent, right?
Laine can't stand nothing, similar to Dach. You can't build on them, especially in playoffs. Piece of glass. It's going to be collasal mistake to lock either of these guys up long term.

I love to pretend that Laine is a solid, 200ft player that can score 50 for an entire season and many seasons to come..

His history says otherwise....
