Andersen is going into his final season before UFA, what should be done with him?
Leafs have passing out top 60 picks like Halloween candy for the past 5 years. Time to restock the cupboard. Move Andersen and Hyman this offseason.
With no succession plan in place (I'm not convinced Campbell is the guy), then they have no choice but to ride him out. See how he fares next season. If he craps the bed again in the post-season, thank him for his 5 seasons and let him go. The team won't go anywhere with him.
However, unless they make a trade for an established goalie, or sign a guy like Holtby or Markstrom this off-season, they likely have no choice but to sign him to another 2/3-year deal. At this point, I'm not sure the team can afford going out and acquiring a team's backup who could be a starter in the league. It worked out okay with Andersen, not so much with Toskala.
They can’t re-sign him? Why?They can't re-sign him so you just want to use him for another season and let him go to UFA? That's a dumbass move for a team that's not even a strong contender.
He's not a star or anything. Lets not get too attached to stonehands.

IMO, if they are planning on giving him another post-season shot(if they make it) they may as well re-sign him now. With no succession plan in place (I'm not convinced Campbell is the guy), then they have no choice but to ride him out. 4 more years of a goalie letting in softies in elimination games. Sounds like great fun.
How much do we think Andersen will be looking for?At this point, I honestly don't know what other choice they have. They haven't drafted anyone to groom them for the role like a Carter Hart, the trade market is thin and expensive, and the minimal free agent goalies will be asking for a premium that the Leafs can't afford.
Campbell will be UFA as well? You don’t re-sign Andersen under any circumstances before the expansion draft. It forces you to have to protect him, which makes it difficult to also keep Campbell if he starts showing you something, and could handcuff you if you bring in a young goalie from a trade.

What does that translate to in Dubas dollars? If I were to venture a guess, I'd say $6.25 to $6.75 million a year. He'd likely look for a 4-year deal, but will have to settle for 2/3 years.
Do you think he has that kind of value as a Goalie going to UFA?I think maybe we should take a good look at Campbell while we have Andersen this season.
I mean what’s your backup/2 goalie plan.
It would probably be a bad day for Dubas if he traded Andy for another skilled forward and we miss the playoffs.
