RD Zayne Parekh - Saginaw Spirit, OHL (2024, 9th, CGY)

A) you have no idea what the f*** you are talking about. The people that actually did the investigation found nothing.

B) the rumour was that some guy called him a racial slur anyway. Which is a bit of a mitigating factor if you ask me.
lol hilarious how B) is the go-to excuse for any abhorrent behavior. It's used so often that it's tough to believe.

That doesn’t mean we can’t discuss it though, I agree it wouldn’t be fair to the kid but at the same time he does have a track record of acting out (warranted or not) so it’s something that I’m personally concerned about.
If course people are going to discuss and give grand judgements with extremely limited facts....sadly that's HF Boards 101.....

There is probably part of that involved. Also imagine they view Parekh as part of the team next year where as Yak is aged out.
100% is due to age. Both are comparable but yak is a year older. Always need guys to lead the team next year which is why they’ll bring guys like martone, Mckenna and Schaefer will prob be 6th/7th d man.

Parekh is just as good as yak if not better and I don’t know if he makes NHL next year- needs to bulk up imo if he’s doing that and obviously work on offensive game. I wonder if he would consider the NCAA?? Regardless definitely see him on team Canada next year along with dickinson(regardless of of if Dickinson is in the show or not- he’s more ready than Parekh)

Started off slow and has now taken off like a rocket ship. Still only 18 too, turns 19 in a month.
Such a shame the Flames have to send him back to the CHL next year and not the AHL (doubt he makes the Flames still). On the other hand he can dominate the World Juniors if the people in charge of Team Canada don't go full Simple Jack again.

For those who watch him and have followed him for a bit.. has he improved his foot intelligence? Does he still skate himself into trouble and use his skill to get out of it or does he have a bit more foresight in his game now?

He still does that at times. He's improving though. For examples, he's really started to limit those times in the offensive zone where he tries to escape down the boards and gets outmuscled resulting in a turnover.

I really want to see what he looks like after a full summer of working with NHLers and NHL skill coaches.

A defenseman getting 2 hat tricks in a 4 game stretch is just an insane feat. His stat splits are getting ridiculous regardless of the sample size

Last 5 games: 15 points, 3.0 P/G
Last 10 games: 22 points, 2.2 P/G
Last 25 games: 44 points, 1.76 P/G
On the season: 59 points, 1.51 P/G

Some quick facts about how good Parekh has been lately. His 1.76 P/G over his last 25 games is just a hair shy of Sennecke season total (1.79). It would also be the 9th best in the CHL. Not amongst defenseman, amongst all players. The only players that are higher are Cristall, McKenna, Catton, Misa, Ritchie, Martone, Sennecke, and Protas.

I completely understand any posters who prefer Dickinson or Buium over Parekh as they bring elements he doesn’t, but no drafted defenseman outside the NHL is anywhere close to his offensive ceiling.

Wonder if he might benefit from going to the NCAA for a year to play against tougher competition in a more structured defensive environment.

I don't know when the transfer window is, ie. if we can send him to the NCAA after the Flames training camp in September, but I think that's what he should do rather than stay in Saginaw for another year. IF he does break 100 points this year (if he doesn't he'll get damn close), what is there left for him in the CHL as a d-man if he's putting up these crazy amount of points. Not sure if he can improve on the defensive side in junior as much as he could if he went up to the NCAA.

edit: just saw someone mention he signed his contract which wouldn't allow him in the NCAA. Damn.
