He was always slated as a late 1st / early 2nd rounder and honestly at this point if any team picks him later than that they have a steal. He has finally started producing and with all the youth Saint John has they will be competing for the Cup next year and the year after, meaning Villeneuve will gain valuable experience. He should also be considered for Team Canada WJC.

He doesn't have many weaknesses, but doesn't have anything ''elite'' either I don't think. He's got size, he can skate, he can defend, he can hit, great shot from the point, above-average hockey sense, solid vision, passing is top notch, can carry the puck, excels on the PP and doesn't mind playing PK. With those tools and the fact he has always been a top D everywhere he went and just keeps improving I don't see how he doesn't project to be a top-4 NHL D right now. Especially with how he's picked up his play in the past couple of months. He's finally ''figured out'' the Q after dominating the Bantam and Midgett ranks.

He reminds me a bit of Jeremy Roy who was always projected as a 1st rounder in the NHL but had his career derailed because of injuries. Roy is a bit of a better skater but they are roughly the same size, are great two-way defenders with solid offensive skills and are both right-shot.

As expected, William has had a strong season. 8 goals, 42 points in 46 games this season.
Is +2 with 110 shots on goal and 26 penalty minutes.

3 players are fighting from the Q defenseman scoring title this season

Belliveau, Rimouski (2002) 44 points
Villeneuve, Saint John (2002) 42 points
Poirier, Saint John (2002) 41 points

Belliveau isn't a 2003. He's a late born 2002

I personally think he’s better than Poirier as an NHL prospect. Although will fully admit I think Poirier is a future bust and ridiculously overrated.

Could this be a Zboril-Chabot case 2.0 where Poirier gets drafted first but Villeneuve becomes the better player?
