This can be a great season for him. He will probably play among the men (Zvolen in top tier league or Ziar nad Hronom in lower tier league) and it will definitely be a jump compared to last season U16 SM-sarja.

Barcik will play the upcoming season in Saskatoon in the WHL and I think that’s an excellent step for his development. He really stagnated over the last year playing pro in Slovakia. This will give him a chance to really make an impact with his skating and physicality while playing big minutes and hopefully improving his puck play and decision making.

The WHL was definitely the best move in terms of his development and should help with an impression to get invited to the WJC camp. Still I see him as a clear third tier of 2005 born dmen.

Tier 1: Strbak
Tier 2: Eperjesi, Chromiak, Pisoja
Tier 3: Barcik, Baran, Kralovic

I’d move Baran and Kralovic down into a 4th tier and have Barcik and Pisoja as tier 3. But I don’t really think that matters much.

Baran can skate, Barcik cannot. That’s the defining factor. It ultimately doesn’t matter but it’s the same as Mosko and Zabka of the 2004 generation. None of them are NHL prospects but I give a better chance of the better skaters having successful European careers over the ones who cannot skate or think the game

Barcik can absolutely skate. He’s still raw. But he has very good mobility and speed.
