Anyone saying DND list clearly has never been in an elite hockey dressing room before. He's getting called out because he got caught, but stop acting like this stuff doesn't happen all the time with young boys with huge egos who have 99% of girls falling head over heel for them.

Yeah it's a shame but this is not out of the ordinary whatsoever. What Miller did absolutely was.

Some teams may pass on him but he'll get drafted, and get drafted within the top 3 rounds for sure.

Some of you are delusional or down playing this...

/rant

Imagine if that was your daughter, and he showed that to everyone... plus her social media profiles. It's not like she okayed him recording/taking a picture too (which would still be a douchebag move if he showed people and told them her name and social media profiles). It's a straight scum bag ass move and he should be prosecuted for it. You can ruins someone's whole life or make someone suicidal from shit like that. Got no respect for anyone that does something like that. Shit like that deserves a severe ass beating because obviously he has no character.

I wouldn't draft, sign, etc. with a 100 foot pole. Someone that can disrespect another human being like that doesn't deserve shit.

I have read the news article about this incident.

This was obviously a very poor decision by Logan Mailloux. And as referenced in the article, it was illegal for him to take a picture of this female without her knowledge or consent.

However, I have seen or heard about much worse things.

For example, you have a current president of a popular Canadian NHL team who stole his teammate's wife during his playing days, and that never stopped this individual from continuing his NHL career or becoming an executive after his career was over.

Stealing a co-worker's wife is much more cancerous in a locker-room or in an employment setting than a few teenage boys engaging in discussion over their sex lives.

He was 17 at the time, and he shared the photograph with teammates in a team group chat. Not appropriate, but also not completely out of the ordinary when it comes to teenage boys.

Mailloux seems very apologetic about what happened, and hopefully has learned a few lessons from all of this.

I'm sorry, wait....You think a player "stealing" another player's wife is worse than a player taking and distributing a naked/sex act picture of a girl without her consent?

Well we should encourage a culture change too! But uhhh…it doesn’t, it shouldn’t, and what the f*** is your 99% point?? Yikes.

Your conclusion is “boys will be boys”?

I’m not trying to justify anything, but there are worse guys with NHL contracts (Casey DeSmith). Mailloux will still get drafted.

Highly unlikely. Regardless of how one views this situation, drafting Mailloux would be an absolute PR nightmare for any team.

I think I saw 9 teams have taken him of their board. However, I wouldn’t be shocked to see a team take him and deal with the backlash.

Pretty sure he is on some teams DND list after this incident.

I can speak a bit of Swedish, this is what I found out:
  • Logan got in contact with a teenage girl via social media early November, met up and took a picture of her, presumably naked and without her consent, and shared it with other players from the team in their app group. He also shared her name.
  • Several of Logan's teammates got pissed at him and the photo quickly got deleted
  • Apparently staff knew about it before the victim confronted the organisation
  • The club was not looking to charge Logan, but the victim wanted to and went to the police
  • Logan confessed to the crimes, said he felt terrible about it
  • Logan was charged with taking unsolicited pictures of her and slander in mid December, but there were no serious penalties, presumably just a warning or a slap on the fingers
  • He got lucky because he was underaged and is not a Swedish citizen, therefore escaped further and severely harder penalties. If he was 18 and Swedish, he most likely had to go to jail.
If you want links, here you go:

He only felt terrible about it because he got caught.

Maybe. The interview process is going to be very important obviously. 18 year old kids aren't usually great at lying, and a room full of grown men who hold his future in their hands can probably figure where the truth lies.
As for the PR, no Canadian team will touch him, but a large US market where the nhl has nowhere near the coverage that the nfl, nba or mlb has?? I don't think any of their media is going to give a shit in LA (or wherever) about ... the Kings 5th round draft choice. Am i wrong ?

Ah yes, the old "it's just lockerroom talk", "boys will be boys" type defence.

Keep in mind that there are young girls that have ended up killing themselves or suffered severe psychological issues from harassment after incidents like this. In no way, shape or form should this be normalized behaviour. A good first step is taking it seriously and not rewarding this kid with the huge honor of being drafted.

Was going to agree but then you decided to act like its only boys being the perps and girls being the victims. This shit is Teenage idiocy and both genders engage and suffer from it.

To fix it we need to go after Clique culture and also just ensure people or more specifically teens understand privacy.

If you’re putting him on a DND list, you have zero clue of what goes on in hockey culture.

Not saying it’s okay that this happened, it’s not. However these kind of things (and WORSE) happen on the regular.

He’s going to learn from this; I know for a fact he’s apologized to the victim and feels terribly about what occurred.
It’s going to make him a better person because of a dumb mistake made as a 17y/o.

It's not an endorsement of the behavior to say it's far more common than will be portrayed by those covering this incident.

I wouldn't be surprised if the majority of NHL, AHL and CHL players have shared a "nude" at one time or another.

The kid has and will continue to be punished for his gross juvenile behavior, but calling for him not to be drafted at all or having his career ruined (assuming you also think he shouldn't be rewarded with an NHL contract) is ridiculous and a sign of the times where there is no such thing as forgiveness and stupid actions as a teenager stick with you for your entire life.

Nobody is saying that it SHOULD be normalized. People are saying that it's a fact of life these days. He shared a pic that he shouldnt have. He paid a fine, went to counciling, apologized and basically has done everything in his power to correct a wrong. As a teenager. Why should this destroy his entire life?

I don't share your views of how frequently lewd photos get tossed around, but there's still a difference to posting photos along with name and contact information in social media channels where it can spread like wildfire.

The fact that some people only seem to show empathy about how this might affect the life and career of this guy, rather than how it's affecting the life of the actual victim is just gross.

Also, most people never get drafted into the NHL and turn out just fine. Acting like it's going to destroy this kid's life if he doesn't get drafted is ridiculous. Teams can decide not to draft him based on this and it's just as legitimate as not drafting someone based on skating, work ethic, skill, hockey IQ, size or a myriad of other potential issues they identify.

That's the part that tells me he is just faking it to make his career be ok, the same way Mitchell did but got caught because he couldn't stop being a racist piece of garbage and kept harassing and assaulting the kid after the fact.

In this case, as you've stated.

1. He took a photo/video without consent.
2. He shared it to friends and others who could have shared it again and on the net, nothing goes away.
3. He then found her information, her profile, personal information and then shared it and that shows malice.

He wanted to demean and treat her like a conquest and trash and there are people in here making excuses for him and that's disgusting and I've learned the true colors of a lot of the crowd here since the Aliu stuff was discussed here and various other topics. So I shouldn't be shocked, but I am thoroughly disgusted. People need to be better, they should be. A 17yr old has already seen and knows the effects and ramifications of their actions before they do it, he took steps to do a lot of stupid shit. He can own up to it now, but he's only remorseful because he got caught. If he didn't get caught, he would have done it again. The fact that he did it, probably tells me he has before.

I find it pathetic how people seriously act like this guy committed some grave sin. They are liars. They know plenty of people who did similar things at his age, and they might've done similar. They did the same thing last year in ruining Miller's life. If they get their way, they'll do the same to this kid.

He likely made a mistake. He may be a dumb jock. Maybe he's an asshole. This idea of a Do Not Draft list allows certain people to feel extra powerful. If he goes into an interview and starts saying he'll cause problems in the team, thats a reason to not draft him. To not draft someone because they did some dumb shit as a teenager is utterly appalling.

But let's make no mistake. This kid will likely be the next victim. The only way they will stop doing this is if people with some courage stand up and call them out for being the phonies that they are.

I think people are overreacting to the whole "giving away her personal information" part of it. The article says that Mailloux "also sent a screenshot of the victim’s online profile, which identified her to teammates by displaying her photo, first name and age". I don't know how many of you guys are social media savvy in here, but this sounds a whole lot like an Instagram profile, which would make sense, because the screenshot would include her username, profile pic, maybe three photos she has on her page, and her bio, which would include her name, age, and maybe other info depending on what the person wants to share. I don't think sharing the person who you just hooked up with is something weird or unnecessary to do, especially with Instagram, as their Instagram profile is already open to the public. It is not as though these kids are getting her phone number and making unnecessary comments to her in private conversations. For any teenage guy or teenage friend group, people obviously want to know and are curious about the girl their friend just scored, and sending their friends the girl's public Instagram account is the easiest way to do so, given that it is already public. I guarantee that whatever girl that got with Mailloux shared that exact info with her friends about Mailloux. It's not abnormal; when someone you are close with gets intimate with someone else, you of course want to see who it is and how well they did.

Is doing this enhanced by the photo? Yes. But sharing a profile after hooking up with someone is a normal thing to do. Some of the teammates probably already knew who the girl was before the whole incident happened because Mailloux probably mentioned that he might be hooking up with this girl beforehand and had more than likely been talking to her for a while at that point. And even if you only knew the girl by name, Instagram is public, so his teammates probably could have found her in a grand total of 5 seconds if he hadn't shared the profile, which they more than likely would have done.
