Hunt was drafted 2 years earlier than Jiricek and Jiricek has 3 points in 4 games.
2020 3rd rounder

2022 1st rounder

I got my money on Jiricek in this race. He has more points in less games at a younger age. The 4 game sample size is impressive and all but I'll look at the bigger body of work personally.

Hunt has played a grand total of 13 NHL games despite being drafted 2 years earlier

So Jiricek is a 2022 draft pick
Wtih more AHL points, LESS AHL games
More NHL games, more NHL games

All at a younger age. Has a higher .ppg in both leagues too.

1. I find it ridiculous that Hunt went from a throw-in piece to someone Jiricek gets compared to head-to-head.

2. Why are we comparing the AHL point production of two defensemen like it matters? For example, Jiricek has "more points in less games at a younger age" than Simon Edvinsson. Both are big two-way defensemen, surely this means we have money on Jiricek there too, right?

Or would we rather stop making disingenuous comparisons that don't mean anything but make the good guy look better than the other guy?

Will take time to correct all the bad habits and miss management that is Columbus. Only Werenski from the like 10 last years of Columbus drafting have reached their projection. Think it says more about Columbus than Jiricek...
What are you talking about. First off, there's a new GM in charge, second you clearly haven't looked the the Columbus roster recently.

Marchenko, Voronkov, Chinakov, Johnson, Sillinger, Fantilli on offense with Werenski who has developed into a top 5 dman in the entire league. With his apparent clone who beat out Jiricek dominating the AHL in Mateychuk. With Svozil second pair and now Hunt getting first pair time on literally one of the best teams in the AHL.

I really don't know anymore where this guy is going, seems to be even worse after the trade.

6 games and just 0+1 in Iowa, allegedly playing on third pair, wtf really, I mean sure it's still early but right now the red flags starting to pile up

Shifting more to the flop area then regular NHLer area :(

I think CBJ did the right thing in trading him and that was my day 1 opinion, while right now I don't believe I see a future top 4 dman I suppose the potential is still there.

CBJ knew they weren't getting anything out of him, he didn't want to be there, and while it always sucks to see a prospect go elsewhere and possibly succeed you have to consider if your team would've gotten much out of him if he stayed. While ideally teams just develop prospects better I think CBJ moving on from him at this early stage is best for them, even if they did have the option to keep him for the rest of the year without him being upset, imagine his trade value and that haul of picks probably turns into a 2nd and 3rd at best at his current rate.

I think the Wild org is one of the better/best outcomes for Jiricek, but I think CBJ got quite a haul for him, he's currently not a sure-fire top 4 dman that some may have considered him on draft day. Obviously pedigree and previous expectations do value into a prospects perceived ceiling but I think considering his development over the years that ceiling is lowering and his AHL numbers this year have been worrying.

It’s always tough for a young player to change teams and systems mid season. This wasn’t a “today” trade for Minnesota. It’s the long play. He may not have the best season this year, but he’ll have a whole summer with the Minnesota brass in his ear telling him what to improve on.

CZE fans can be happy that the best Dman down in Iowa is one of their countrymen... Spacek. He is also a RHD, so in a world where a GM doesn't worry about making his trades look good, Spacek would be the first call up if a RHD was to be injured. Not sure if Guerin would be the man to do that.

CBJ fans can be happy that MN is going downhill with the wind, making the draft picks received more valuable.

MN fans have to console themselves that it's only been six gp so far with Jiricek so far, and that he hasn't been bad. I really think they are far more concerned with making Jiricek a viable defender rather than the next Roman Josi. MN needs him to get stronger, get quicker feet, and to play well w/o the puck. His puck skills and instincts are already pretty good.

Exactly. Will he listen?

Minnesota and Jiricek aren't going to fix the majority of his problems mid season so anyone expecting some wild change was out to lunch. Biggest thing is they need to keep him from falling back into a generic D and losing his aggressiveness and creativity while he builds his strength and skating to an adequate level. Also looking at a stat sheet to judge Jiricek is also doing it wrong, he won't be a mega point producer but should score quite a few goals and have decent numbers.

Nothing has changed since the trade except the logo on the front of his jersey, it's still going to take some time just like CBJ fans have been saying for awhile

I'll echo most of the above. I switched gears after 3 GMs/coaches all said 'no' to NHL ice time. I am hoping that the plan is this:

1. buy a place in Iowa
2. we play on weekends
3. you hit the gym during the week
4. here is your skating coach, you work with him/her daily
5. put him in positions to defend and work through the warts
6. Spacek should be first call up over him on RHD

Commit to it and stick to it.

Not happy but I think that's the best course. He got beat out by Jack Johnson for chrissakes.lol

But why does it always have to suck for czech prospects ffs, why we cant just have one top D, we finally have one who looks amazing at age 18, and now he is almost 22 and just sucks, I am sorry but in comparison to what he looked at 18 he just completely sucks right now.

FFS just once can it go without bulshit and top pick turn to actually top player for us czechs? Why to we always have to fall short and struggle, just sucks man.

I am not saying we didnt turn some prospects into great NHLers, but the fact stands that the last one was Necas in 2017, and the fact stand the our top 10 picks in last 15 years completely suck, Zacha is the only one who can bear some critique, and even he is not something special, Zadina .... in europe lol, Jiricek, 21 and sucks even in AHL .... this is just crushing to bear year after year for czechs, just everything always has to suck damn
